The recent advances on the developments of Wireless and Internet technologies
have generated increasing interest in the diffusion and processing of
geo-referenced data. Wireless and Internet devices also offer new ways of
accessing and analyzing geo-spatial information. Consequently, new challenges
and opportunities have been provided to the GIS research community.
This workshop is intended to provide an up-to-date review of advances on
recent development of Web and Wireless Geographical Information
Systems (W2GIS).
This workshop follows the successful 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 editions, held in
Kyoto, Singapore, Rome and Seoul respectively.
We invite submissions that address both theoretical and technical
issues of W2GIS.
Reports on implementations are particularly welcome. Suggested topics include,
but are not limited to as long as they address issues related to W2GIS:
- Conceptual and logical models for W2GIS
- Data management and data retrieval methods
- Geographical search engines and web services
- Digital geographical libraries
- W2GIS query languages and interfaces

Papers must be written in English. Papers should not exceed 10 pages
in LNCS format

Each paper must include a short abstract and a list of keywords
indicating subject
classification. All accepted papers will be published in a volume of LNCS
by Springer-Verlag. Acceptance of a paper means an obligation for at
least one of
the authors to attend the conference and present the paper. Authors
of best/some
selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version of
their papers for
inclusion in World Wide Web Journal or International Journal of Web
Emerging Technology.

Title: Princeton Scalable Display Wall Project

[Abstract]
In the last two decades, compute power, storage density, and
network bandwidth have improved by more than three orders of
magnitude. In the same time period, however, display resolution
has merely doubled. The increased processor and storage capacities
have enabled the computational sciences, but have simultaneously
unleashed a data avalanche on the scientific community. As a result,
scientific research is limited by data analysis and visualization
capabilities. In order to improve visualization capabilities,
we started Princeton Scalable Display Wall project in 1998 to
investigate issues in building and using a large-format, scalable
display system. Since then, we have built several display walls and
software systems. Our latest display wall built in our lab uses
24 projectors to drive about 20 million pixels onto an 18' by 8' screen.
The system uses an automatic alignment mechanism to achieve sub-pixel
geometric alignment accuracy and is capable of running various 2D and
3D visualization applications. Our recent focus is to work with
computational science researchers closely and help them use display
walls in their data explorations. This talk gives an overview of
the project and reports our lessons and experiences in building and
using scalable display wall systems.

日本データベース学会会員の皆様
「第２回生物学の知見に基づいた高度情報技術の確立に関する国際ワークショ
ップ（略称：Bio-ADIT2006）」の論文投稿締切が近づいて参りましたので、２
回目の論文募集案内をお送りします。論文投稿締切日は7月31日となっています。
Bio-ADIT は、その第１回が2004年1月にスイス連邦工科大学ローザンヌ校で開
催されました。世界中から多数の論文投稿があり、国際的に活躍している多く
の研究者達の講演・論文発表がなされ、大成功裡に終了しました。また、その
模様は、インターネットで全世界へ向けてライブ配信されました。特に、再編
集された会議録が、審査を経た上で “State-of-the-Art Survey”シリーズの
１巻としてSpringer社から出版されました。このシリーズの刊行物として採用
されたことは、Bio-ADIT2004が国際的に高く評価された証左と言えましょう。
Bio-ADIT2004の成功を受けて、第2回目のBio-ADIT2006を、来年1月26日、27日
の両日、大阪千里中央のライフサイエンスセンターで開催します。前回と同様、
会議録を書籍として発行する予定です。

Biologically inspired approaches have already proved successful in
achieving major breakthroughs in a wide variety of problems in information
technology (IT). A more recent trend is to explore the applicability of
bio-inspired approaches to the development of self-organizing, evolving,
adaptive and autonomous information technologies, which will meet the
requirements of next-generation information systems, such as diversity,
scalability, robustness, and resilience. These new technologies will
become a base on which to build a networked symbiotic environment for
pleasant, symbiotic society of human beings in the 21st century.
Bio-ADIT 2006 follows the success of the first workshop Bio-ADIT
2004 held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL),
Switzerland in January 2004. The workshop is intended to provide an
effective forum for original research results in the field of bio-
inspired approaches to advanced information technologies. It will
also serve to foster the connection between biological paradigms and
solutions to building the next-generation information systems.
SCOPE:
The primary focus of the workshop is on new and original research
results in the areas of information systems inspired by biology. We
invite you to submit papers that present novel, challenging, and
innovative results. The topics include all aspects of bio-inspired
information technologies in networks, distributed/parallel systems,
hardware (including robotics) and software. We also encourage you to
submit papers dealing with:
- Self-organizing, self-repairing, self-replicating and
self-stabilizing systems
- Evolving and adapting systems
- Autonomous and evolutionary software and robotic systems
- Scalable, robust and resilient systems
- Complex biosystems
- Gene, protein and metabolic networks
- Symbiosis networks
- Synthetic biology for IT evolution

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:
Authors are invited to submit complete and original papers. Papers
submitted should not have been previously published in any forum, nor
be under review for any journal or other conference. All submitted
papers will be refereed for quality, correctness, originality and
relevance. All accepted papers will be published in official proceedings
with an ISBN number by a major international publisher, and be available
at the conference.
Manuscripts should include an abstract and be limited to 16 pages in
single spaced and single column format. Submissions should include the
title, author(s), author's affiliation, e-mail address, fax number and
postal address. In the case of multiple authors, an indication of which
author is responsible for correspondence and preparing the camera ready
paper should also be included. Electronic submission is strongly
encouraged. Preferred file formats are PDF (.pdf) or Postscript (.ps).

WIDM 2005 is the seventh in a series of workshops on Web
Information and Data Management to be held in conjunction with
the 14th International Conference on Information and Knowledge
Management - CIKM 2005 (http://www.tzi.de/CIKM2005/) The
objective of the workshop is to bring together researchers,
practitioners, and developers to study how the web information
can be extracted, stored, analyzed, and processed to provide

PAPER SUBMISSION
Electronic submission will be used. Manuscripts should be submitted
electronically as PDF files and be formatted using the camera-ready
templates available at ACM site

6 to 8 pages in length using the ACM style.
All accepted papers will appear in the Proceedings published by the
ACM Press. The best workshop papers will be invited to be
submitted to a special journal issue. For 2002, 2003 and 2004 editions
of WIDM, Data & Knowledge Engineering was the journal selected for
publication of this special issue. We intend to use this prestigious
journal again for the WIDM 2005 special issue. Starting from this
year, the workshop one-day schedule let accommodate regular papers
along with a few short papers (whenever applicable).
