In the ontology world, it appears as a key capability in the current efforts towards scalable solutions that would en-able ontologies to grow to the huge size that we can foresee in real world future applications spread within the Web. Yet, the concept of modularization and how it applies are open to various interpretations, due to the lack of clear and unambiguous definitions. What exactly is a module, and what is not a module? This and many other related questions are investigated in this talk, and answers given. Moreover, some alternative approaches are surveyed, and an example scenario is given to illustrate how modularization can be operational. Tel:044-549-1708(Ex 877-5607) Fax:044-549-1718(Ex 877-5719) ----------------------------------------------------------------

XML data are self-describing, and provide a platform independent means to describe data and therefore, can transport data from one platform to another. XML documents can be mapped to one more of the existing data models such as Relational and Object-relational, and XML views can be produced dynamically from the pre-existing data models. XML queries can be mapped to the queries of the underlying models and can use their optimization features. In this context, schema management and discovery, query optimization, data integration and indexing plays important roles. XML data integration is useful for E-commerce applications such as comparison-shopping, which requires further study in the domain of data, schema and query based integration. XML Change management is another important area that has attracted attention in the context of web warehouse. XML has been in use in upcoming areas such web services, sensor and biological data management. Following the success of the last two International Workshop on XML Schema and Data Management, we are pleased to invite original contributions in this area for the 3rd International Workshop on XML Schema and Data Management to be held in Atlanta, USA. The objective of this workshop is to discuss database and Web information system applications that use semantics and to gain insight into the evolution of semantic Web technology. In particular, this workshop will try to address how ontologies and semantics can help in building better databases and Web information systems. Furthermore evolving semantic information systems still lack adequate indexing, query processing and optimization, and benchmarking techniques. The experiences in building semi-structured (e.g. XML) and distributed databases can help in developing better techniques for storing and querying large-scale ontologies and meta-data repositories. Thus, SWDB'06 workshop aims to promote a dialogue among semantic Web and database communities with a common goal of building better and more efficient Web information systems. Topics ------ We encourage submissions on: * research, focusing on foundational or technological aspects * experience, describing industrial aspects Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Management of large scale ontologies * Ontology-driven information systems * Semantic interoperability * Ontology-driven knowledge discovery * Meta-data extraction and annotation * Meta-data and ontology quality * Benchmarks and evaluation * Semantic search of large document collections * Semantic multimedia information systems * Query algebras for combined data and metadata queries * Storage, querying, and integration of semantic Web services * Semantic Web applications (prototypes, pilots, deployed) based on XML, RDF, OWL or various variants (RDF and OWL are W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) recommendations and recently being adopted by the industry as well) including: - Personal information management, - Bio-informatics and life sciences, - Geographic information systems, - Enterprise data integration etc. Paper Submission ---------------- We invite the submission of short (up to four pages) and long papers (up to eight pages).
