Motivation Although cryptography and security techniques have been around for quite some time, emerging technologies such as ubiquitous computing and ambient intelligence that exploit increasingly interconnected networks, mobility and personalization, put new requirements on security with respect to data management. As data is accessible anytime anywhere, according to these new concepts, it becomes much easier to get unauthorized data access. Furthermore, it becomes simpler to collect, store, and search personal information and endanger people’s privacy. Therefore, research in the area of secure data management is of growing importance, attracting attention of both the data management and security research communities. The interesting problems range from traditional ones such as, access control (with all variations, like dynamic, context-aware, role-based), database security (e.g. efficient database encryption schemes, search over encrypted data, etc.), privacy preserving data mining to controlled sharing of data. This year, we will continue with a tradition to have a special session devoted to secure data management in healthcare. Data security and privacy issue are traditionally important in the medical domain. However, recent developments and increasing deployment of IT in healthcare such as the introduction of electronic health records and extramural applications in the personal health care domain, pose new challenges towards the protection of medical data. In contrast to other domains, such as financial, which can absorb the cost of the abuse of the system, healthcare cannot. Once sensitive information about individual’s health problems is uncovered and social damage is done, there is no way to revoke the information or to restitute the individual. In addition to this, the medical field has some other specific characteristics, such as long-term value of medical data and flexibility with respect to, on one hand confidentiality, and on the other hand availability of medical data in the case of emergency. Aim The aim of the workshop is to bring together people from the security research community and data management research community in order to exchange ideas on the secure management of data. This year an additional special session will be organized with the focus on secure and private data management in healthcare. However, its use in practice is not as widespread as one would have expected - as per Gartner around 80% of the data in enterprises today is unstructured which is not integrated with the structured data. The reason for this gap between theory and practice is that researchers have explored the generic algorithms required to handle the problem of information integration. Each domain, however, has its own unique set of requirements and challenges which severely restrict the integration of structured and unstructured data in practice. E.g., integrating contact center call audio with structured (transaction and profile) data in real time requires efficient techniques which are highly scalable (due to the huge customer profile data) and work on noisy transcribed data; integrating customer emails with customer profile information require techniques which work in the presence of partial user information (present in the e! mail); whereas certain domains require information integration techniques to be aware of the users' access rights and perform integration in an event based manner. Such requirements lead to the development of new algorithms and approaches for doing information integration across structured and unstructured data. These new approaches will govern the success of information integration in practice as they are motivated on real problems. The aim of this workshop is to encourage researchers in the information integration community to present novel issues and techniques related to applying information integration in different areas (especially in the context of integrating structured and unstructured data). The workshop will serve to present new ideas to researchers which would help drive the research in information integration from being "generic" to being more focused and realistic. We invite papers from researchers and practitioners working in information integration, data warehousing, active databases, privacy and trustworthy data systems and related areas to submit their original papers in this workshop. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed and evaluated on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. PRDC is now recognized as the main regular event of the Pacific area that is covering the many dimensions of dependability and fault tolerance, encompassing fundamental theoretical approaches, practical experimental projects, and commercial components and systems. As applications of computing systems have permeated in every aspects of daily life, the dependability of computing system has become increasingly critical. This symposium provides a forum for countries around the Pacific Rim and other areas of the world to exchange ideas for improving the dependability of computing systems. The symposium will be organized by the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. Taipei is a vibrant blend of traditional culture and cosmopolitan life. Taipei is the political, economic, educational and recreational center of the country, offering an array of significant cultural sights. A more recent cultural focal point in the city is the National Palace Museum, which houses hundreds of thousands of Chinese antiques and art works. The 101 tower is the highest building in the world currently, surrounded by a lot of department stores. Topics of interest include (but not limited to): - Software and hardware reliability, testing, - Reliability in Internet and Web systems and verification and validation applications - Dependability measurement, modeling and - Information security in Internet evaluation - Multi-medium in dependable computing - Survivability quantification - Bioinformatics in dependable computing - Security quantification - Dependability issues in computer networks - Self-healing, self-protecting and fault-tolerant and communications Systems - Dependability issues in distributed and - Software aging and rejuvenation parallel systems - Safety-critical systems and software - Dependability issues in real-time systems, - Architecture and system design for dependability database and transaction processing systems - Fault tolerant algorithms and protocols - Dependability issues in autonomic computing - Tools for design and evaluation of dependable - Dependability issues in embedded systems Systems - Industrial applications --PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES-- Manuscripts should be submitted in the following categories: Regular Papers and Practical Experience Reports. Regular Papers should describe original research (not submitted or published elsewhere) and be not more than 20 double-spaced pages including figures and tables using 11-point type. Practical Experience Reports (of 5-12 pages) should describe an experience or a case study, such as the design and deployment of a system or actual failure and recovery field data. The title page should include a 150-word abstract, five keywords, authors・ names and addresses and include a line specifying whether the submission is a Regular Paper or a Practical Experience Report. The full mailing address, phone, fax and email address of the corresponding author should be specified. All submissions must be made electronically (http://www.csie.ntust.edu.tw/prdc08) Additional submission opportunities are also possible at a later deadline under the form of Fast Abstracts.
