Biologically inspired approaches have already proved successful in
achieving major breakthroughs in a wide variety of problems in information
technology (IT). A more recent trend is to explore the applicability of
bio-inspired approaches to the development of self-organizing, evolving,
adaptive and autonomous information technologies, which will meet the
requirements of next-generation information systems, such as diversity,
scalability, robustness, and resilience. These new technologies will
become a base on which to build a networked symbiotic environment for
pleasant, symbiotic society of human beings in the 21st century.
Bio-ADIT 2006 follows the success of the first workshop Bio-ADIT
2004 held at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL),
Switzerland in January 2004. The workshop is intended to provide an
effective forum for original research results in the field of bio-
inspired approaches to advanced information technologies. It will
also serve to foster the connection between biological paradigms and
solutions to building the next-generation information systems.
SCOPE:
The primary focus of the workshop is on new and original research
results in the areas of information systems inspired by biology. We
invite you to submit papers that present novel, challenging, and
innovative results. The topics include all aspects of bio-inspired
information technologies in networks, distributed/parallel systems,
hardware (including robotics) and software. We also encourage you to
submit papers dealing with:
- Self-organizing, self-repairing, self-replicating and
self-stabilizing systems
- Evolving and adapting systems
- Autonomous and evolutionary software and robotic systems
- Scalable, robust and resilient systems
- Complex biosystems
- Gene, protein and metabolic networks
- Symbiosis networks
- Synthetic biology for IT evolution

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS:
Authors are invited to submit complete and original papers. Papers
submitted should not have been previously published in any forum, nor
be under review for any journal or other conference. All submitted
papers will be refereed for quality, correctness, originality and
relevance. All accepted papers will be published in official proceedings
with an ISBN number by a major international publisher, and be available
at the conference.
Manuscripts should include an abstract and be limited to 16 pages in
single spaced and single column format. Submissions should include the
title, author(s), author's affiliation, e-mail address, fax number and
postal address. In the case of multiple authors, an indication of which
author is responsible for correspondence and preparing the camera ready
paper should also be included. Electronic submission is strongly
encouraged. Preferred file formats are PDF (.pdf) or Postscript (.ps).

Title: Surface-based spatial query processing
Abstract
Spatial database research has traditionally been considered
in a 2D space. The Earth is not flat, and there are many spatial
applications that must consider a 3D terrain model, which can
typically be approximated by a triangular mesh with millions of
3D points. Terrain data is very large,
and surface-based spatial query processing can be very costly
in terms of both computational cost and I/O cost. In this talk,
we will introduce the concept of multiresolution terrain
modelling, which supports on-the-fly derivation of approximate
surface models at any required level of details. We will discuss
various database techniques we have developed to support
efficient processing of view-dependent visualization queries and
k nearest neighbour queries. We will also outline other
challenging research issues along this research direction.

PAPER SUBMISSION
================
APWeb'06 invites full papers describing original contributions in all
fields
of Internet and WWW related research and applications. A submission
should
be no more than 25 pages double spacing (about 5000 words), including
all
figures. Each paper will be fully refereed by the program committee and
judged on its originality, significance, technical quality, relevance to
APWeb'06 as well as presentation. All submissions should be in English.
Submission of a paper should be regarded as an undertaking that, should
the
paper be accepted, at least one author will attend the conference to
present
the work.
All papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format to the
conference website. The title and abstract should be submitted first.
PUBLICATION
===========
The proceedings of the conference will be published by Springer in its
Lecturer Notes in Computer Science series. Complete instructions for
authors
regarding submission and formatting procedures can be found at the
APWeb'06
website. Papers will be accepted in three categories: regular papers,
short
papers, and industry papers.
BEST PAPER AWARDS
=================
The APWeb'06 program committee will select one winner for the Best Paper
Award (all regular papers are eligible) and one winner for the Best
Student
Paper Award (only the regular papers whose first author is a full-time
student are eligible). The winner of each award will be presented at
the
conference with an award certificate, a cheque of US$500 and an
invitation
to submit an extended version of the award-winning paper for the
consideration of publishing in the Journal of WWW.

CALL FOR INDUSTRY PAPERS and DEMO PROPOSALS

Researchers, practitioners and developers are invited to submit
industry papers and demo proposals to APWeb 2006 conference. We are
especially interested in products or prototypes of novel Web related
technologies and applications.
APWeb2006 will hold an industry session and two demo sessions for the
accepted industry papers and demo proposals. Each accepted industry
paper is required to have a presentation on the industry session and
each accepted demo is required to have a poster and demonstrate during
two sessions. APWeb2006 will provide space and standard equipments (PC
and Internet connection) at the conference venue.
Industry Paper Submission
=========================
All areas of APWeb2006 are of interest to the industry papers. The
paper should be about industrial or other real-world applications of
Web technology. A description of how the applications has been
conceived and deployed must be provided. The selection criteria used
for industry papers include the novelty, the technical quality, and
the attractiveness of the application.
All industry paper submissions must be no more than 25 pages
(including all figures and bibliography) doubles spacing and must
satisfy the style requirement as specified in the call for paper in
the main conference.
Industry paper needs to be submitted electronically to
kan(a)src.ricoh.co.jp as a PDF attachment before the deadline of
submission. The Program Committee will review each submission. Note
that for every accepted industry paper, APWeb does require at least
one person to register and present.
Demo Paper Submission
=====================
All demonstration submissions must be no more than 8 pages (including
all figures) and should provide a short description about the system
to be demonstrated system, covering a summary of its novel
characteristics, the list of functions and features.
The selection criteria used for demonstration proposals include the
novelty, the technical quality, and the attractiveness of the
demonstrated system.
Demo proposals need to be submitted electronically to
apweb06-demo(a)kde.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp as a PDF attachment before the
deadline of demo proposal submission. For every accepted demo paper,
APWeb does require at least one person to register and present.
Publications
==========
Both industry paper and demo paper will be included in the formal
conference proceedings, which will be published by Springer in its
LNCS series (which are SCI indexed). Each industry paper can have up
to 12 pages (regular paper) or 6 pages (short paper), and each demo
paper can have up to 4 pages.
Awards
================
APWeb will select one winner for the Best Industry Paper Award and one
winner for the Best Demo Award.

Description:
Computational science is an important and urgent field with
multi-disciplinary research. It focuses on algorithms development and
implementations of computing for scientists and engineers. Its impact is
already being felt in many science and engineering disciplines. Current
research in computational science requires multi-disciplinary knowledge,
not only in sciences and engineering but also in cutting-edge
technologies of computing. Many science and engineering explorations
rely on mature, efficient computational algorithms and implementations,
practical and reliable numerical methods, and large-scale computation
systems. The theme of this workshop focuses on scientific computations
and applications on Web-based Internet, enhancing
cyberinfrastructure-based scientific and engineering collaborations. It
provides a great opportunity for non-computer science professionals
traveling from different fields to this conference. This workshop offers
academic researchers, developers, and practitioners an opportunity to
discuss various aspects of computational science and engineering-related
computational methods and problem solving techniques for science and
engineering research.
This workshop will be conducted in conjunction with The Eighth Asia
Pacific Web Conference (APWeb'06). The workshop will be guided by the
APWeb06 organization and planned and executed by the workshop program
committee independently. We hope to attract people from diverse science
and engineering disciplines, nationally and internationally, to attend
the workshop, present their research results, share their experiences
and ideas, and plan future collaborations.
Workshop Topics:
Topics of the workshop must relate to Web-based, application oriented
scientific and engineering computations or simulations. They include
(but are not limited to):
Web Information Systems for computational science and engineering
Web data mining and search in applications of computational science and engineering
Web-based internet computing for solving computational problems
Cyber-infrastructure-oriented Web computing in science and engineering
XML technology for collaborative computations in science and engineering
Web services for cooperative computing in science and engineering
Web-based applications for collaborative scientific computing
Web-based learning in computational science and engineering
Web graphic user interface design for scientists and engineers
Web-based visualization
Web-based database integration
Web applications embedded scientific computing
Web-based Wireless computations in science and engineering
Web-empowered distributed, parallel, P2P, and Grid computing
Paper Submission and Publication:
ICSE'06 invites full papers in the field of Web Internet-based
computations described in the theme of the workshop and solicit topics
listed above. Papers must not have been previously published or
currently submitted for publication elsewhere. All submitted papers
should be written in English. Each paper will be peer reviewed at least
by three program committee members who are expertise in the relevant
area. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors
to register and present the work associated with the paper submitted.
A selection of the high-quality papers from the workshop will be
published in a special issue of International Journal of Computational
Science and Engineering (Inderscience Publisher).
The paper(s) must be in LNCS format Email paper(s) (maximum 8 pages).

APWeb'06 is the eighth in this series of international conferences on
WWW Technologies. It aims at bringing together researchers and

PAPER SUBMISSION
================
APWeb'06 invites full papers describing original contributions in all
fields of Internet and WWW related research and applications. A
submission should be no more than 25 pages double spacing (about 5000
words), including all figures. Each paper will be fully refereed by
the program committee and judged on its originality, significance,
technical quality, relevance to APWeb'06 as well as presentation. All
submissions should be in English. Submission of a paper should be
regarded as an undertaking that, should the paper be accepted, at
least one author will attend the conference to present the work.
All papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format to the
conference website. The title and abstract should be submitted first.
PUBLICATION
===========
The proceedings of the conference will be published by Springer in its
Lecturer Notes in Computer Science series. Complete instructions for
authors regarding submission and formatting procedures can be found at
the APWeb'06 website. Papers will be accepted in three categories:
regular papers, short papers, and industry papers.
BEST PAPER AWARDS
=================
The APWeb'06 program committee will select one winner for the Best
Paper Award (all regular papers are eligible) and one winner for the
Best Student Paper Award (only the regular papers whose first author
is a full-time student are eligible). The winner of each award will
be presented at the conference with an award certificate, a cheque of
US$500 and an invitation to submit an extended version of the
award-winning paper for the consideration of publishing in the Journal
of WWW.
