Workshop site: https://sites.google.com/site/dispa2020 Submission deadline Saturday June 6th, 2020, 23:59 AoE Notification of Acceptance: Friday, 3rd July, 2020, 23:59 AoE * Overview The goal of the Distributed Infrastructure Systems, Programming and AI (DISPA) workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners involved with distributed systems for databases, programmings, and machine learning. Distributed processing has become widespread due to the trend of increasing data volumes, but these research communities remain fairly disjoint. Moreover, industry trends such as public cloud computing are further changing the design of distributed systems, favoring highly elastic and multi-tenant system designs, but there are limited exposures to these challenges in research. We aim to enable an exchange of ideas among researchers and practitioners in this field where we will lead to novel distributed system designs. There have been many exciting changes in the distributed system fields in recent years, including - the wide adoption of new open source programming tools for massively distributed computation (e.g. PyTorch and Apache Spark) - the rise of public cloud computing, “cloud-native” data management and computation systems such as BigQuery and AWS Aurora - the use of machine learning to manage and optimize distributed systems - new algorithmic advances in deep learning, approximate query processing, information retrieval, and other areas. This workshop also provides good opportunities to discuss your work to be submitted to Scalable Data Science track at PVLDB. For any questions regarding the DISPA workshop, please send email to dispa2020-q(a)googlegroups.com. * Topics of Interested The DISPA workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners designing distributed systems for databases, programming frameworks, and machine learning. The suggested topics of interest for the DISPA workshop include, but are not limited to: - Distributed data management and query processing - Distributed machine learning - Distributed systems for information retrieval - Cloud computing and “cloud-native” system designs - Programming models for distributed computing - Code and runtime optimizations for distributed applications - Machine learning for managing and optimizing distributed systems - Management and operation of distributed systems - Approximate algorithms for query processing and machine learning at scale - Workload characterization and performance evaluation - Experience with production systems operating at massive scale - New use cases for distributed computing * Submission Guidelines The DISPA workshop follows the VLDB formatting guideline and the submission guideline. We use CMT system to handle all submissions at https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/DISPA2020. Unlike the VLDB submission guideline, the paper length for a paper is up to 6 pages, excluding references. The accepted paper may have up to four extra pages if authors want, excluding reference. At least one author of every accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop and give an oral presentation about the paper. * Workshop Co-Chairs - Kazuaki Ishizaki, IBM Research - Tokyo - Barzan Mozafari, University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor - Matei Zaharia, Stanford University & Databricks -- Kazuaki Ishizaki, IBM Research - Tokyo Mail : kiszk(a)acm.org

CFP: Workshop on Polystore systems for heterogeneous data in multiple databases with privacy and security assurances (In conjunction with VLDB 2020)
by makoto onizuka 12 May '20

12 May '20

日本データベース学会のみなさま，阪大の鬼塚です．東京で開催される国際会議 VLDB2020 の併設ワークショップ　Poly'20: Polystore systems for heterogeneous data in multiple databases with privacy and security assurances のご案内です．データ発見，データ統合，データクリーニング，プライバシーに関する研究を広く公募します．詳細は以下のようになっておりますので，ご投稿をご検討頂けますようよろしくお願いいたします． Workshop site: https://sites.google.com/view/poly20/home Submission deadline August 5, 2020 CALL FOR PAPERS Poly'20: Polystore systems for heterogeneous data in multiple databases with privacy and security assurances Co-located with VLDB 2020 Conference date: August 31, 2020 Location: Tokyo, Japan (Virtual) Website: https://sites.google.com/view/poly20/home Important Dates (Extended): July 15, 2020: Due date for full workshop papers submission August 1, 2020: Notification of paper acceptance to authors August 5, 2020: Camera ready version of workshop papers August 31, 2020: Workshop (will be virtual) Introduction: Enterprises are routinely divided into independent business units to support agile operation. However, this leads to "siloed" information systems. Such silos generate a host of problems, such as: -DISCOVERY of relevant data to a problem at hand. For example: Merck has 4000 (+/-) Oracle databases, a data lake, large numbers of files and an interest in public data from the web. Finding relevant data in this sea of information is a challenge. -INTEGRATING the discovered data. Independently constructed schemas are never compatible. -CLEANING the resulting data. A good figure of merit is that 10% of all data is missing or wrong. -ENSURING EFFICIENT ACCESS to resulting data. At scale operations must be performed "in situ", and a good polystore system is a requirement It is often said that data scientists spent 80% (or more) of their time on these tasks, and it is crucial to have better solutions. In addition, the EU has recently enacted GDPR that will force enterprises to assuredly delete personal data on request. This "right to be forgotten" is one of several requirements of GDPR, and it is likely that GDPR-like requirements will spread to other locations, for example California. In addition, privacy and security issues are increasingly an issue for large internet platforms. In enterprises, these issues will be front and center in the distributed information systems in place today. Lastly, enterprise access to data in practice will require queries constructed from a variety of programming models. A "one size fits all" mentality just won't work in these cases. At IEEE BigData'16, BigData'17, VLDB'18, and VLDB'19 we organized workshops on Polystore systems. These successful workshops brought together experts from around the world working on novel advances in the field. Poly'20 will continue to focus on the broader real-world polystore problem, which includes data management, data integration, data curation, privacy and security. In the past, conference proceedings have been published as a part of the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science. This year's workshop will be virtual. Research topics included in workshop: *Research Topics Included: *Privacy, Security, and Policy in heterogenous data management. *Languages/Models for integrating disparate data such as graphs, arrays, relations *Query evaluation and optimization in polystore and other multi-DBMS systems *Efficient data movement and scheduling, failures and recovery for polystore analytics *High Performance/Parallel Computing Platforms for Big Data *Data Acquisition, Integration, Cleaning, and Best Practices *Privacy and Access control in Polystore and multi-DBMS systems *Enterprise support for GDPR and similar privacy regulations *Policy implications of GDPR and similar privacy regulations *Mathematics for Polystore and other multi-DBMS systems *Demonstrations of new tools and techniques for heterogeneous data Submissions: Please visit: https://sites.google.com/view/poly20/submission Workshop Organizers: Vijay Gadepally, MIT Lincoln Laboratory Danny Weitzner, MIT Internet Policy Research Initiative Michael Gubanov, FSU Edmon Begoli, ORNL Dimitris Kolovos, University of York Amarnath Gupta, UCSD Ratnesh Sahay, AstraZeneca Rada Chirkova, NCSU Sam Madden, MIT Tim Kraska, MIT Timothy Mattson, Intel Corporation Michael Stonebraker, MIT Makoto Onizuka, University of Osaka

論文募集：ICADL2020 の3大ポイント．締め切り7/1
by Atsuyuki Morishima 09 May '20

09 May '20

参加費無料で，国際会議発表を行うチャンスです．詳細は以下をご覧いただけると幸いです．どうぞよろしくお願いいたします．森嶋厚行 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The 22nd International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL 2020) November 30 – December 1, 2020 (online conference) Organized by Kyoto University, University of Tsukuba and ICADL Steering Committee In collaboration with Asia-Pacific Chapter of iSchools URL: https://icadl.net/icadl2020 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL), which started in Hong Kong in 1998 and over the years traveled many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, is known as a major digital library conference and is also ranked as “Core A” conference. Along with JCDL and TPDL, ICADL is held annually as one of the three top venues for connecting digital_Library, computer science and library and information science communities. This year ICADL will be held online from November 30 to December 1, 2020 and according to Japan time zone. ICADL conference will also collaborate with Asia-Pacific Chapter of iSchools (AP-iSchools) in this year. Many emerging research areas such as Digital Humanities, Open Sciences, Social Informatics originated from digital Library research over the past decades, and it is essential that ICADL continues as a platform for scholars to connect and develop in these emerging as well as extant areas. ICADL 2020 is planned as a forum for researchers to exchange ideas and discuss together across domains for innovative digital information environment especially during a time of pandemic, upheavals in work, culture, health services and so on. An important feature of ICADL is the diversity of the Asia-Pacific region in many aspects – languages, cultures, social systems, development levels and technologies. This diversity will bring new ideas and thoughts to the participants. This year the conference will be held online same as many other related events due to COVID-19 pandemics. Presentations will be then performed online as well as they will be also recorded and disseminated later for open access by the community. There will be no attendance fee, and only prior registration of the attendees’ and presenters’ information is required. The conference is free for anyone to attend! Proceedings of ICADL 2020 will be published by Springer as an LNCS volume, which is indexed by Scopus. In this year we invite three kinds of submissions: full research papers, short research papers and practitioners papers. Note that there will be no demo or poster submissions for this year.
