趣旨
今日，コンピュータは子ども・若者からお年寄りまで，様々な用途で用いられ
るようになっています。来るべき知識社会では，このような利用者の間での創
造，連携，協調のためにコンピュータを利用することが，コンピュータ上での
人間の活動を支援する際の重要な要因となります。本国際会議は，創造的・協
調的な環境（特にSmalltalk，Squeak，Croquet上で実現されたものを対象
としますが，これに限定するものではありません）について，技術的観点だけ
でなく，実践的・経験的な観点から議論・発表する場を，研究者，開発者，利
用者に提供することを目的としています。

SCOPE
The emergence of the radio frequency identification (RFID) technology
introduces new opportunities and risks in our everyday life. In order to
make the best use of the technology, relevant technological, social, and
physical infrastructures need to be rethought.
This workshop aims to provide an academic forum for system designers,
hardware/software/security/HCI researchers, economists, and social
scientists to:
- bring together different perspectives, views and ideas
in a constructive way, and
- lay out an agenda for RFID privacy and information sharing
research in the next 3-5 years.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
[Models]
Theoretical foundations and practical models for building systems that
allow people to share the 'right' information at the 'right' time at
the 'right' place in the 'right' way among the 'right' people
[Technology and tools]
What kinds of core technology and tools are needed? How can they be
integrated in different social and physical context?
[Contextual factors]
How should RFID systems respond to changing personal, social and physical
context? For example, how can systems understand a reasonable balance
between privacy and safety for the elderly with decreasing cognitive
abilities?
[Collaboration]
How can service providers, technology vendors and consumers collaborate
and create a win-win situation?
[End-user needs]
How can we understand consumers' views and incorporate their privacy and
information needs in the design and evolution of RFID systems?
[Lessons learned]
What are lessons learned from successes and failures of early RFID trials?
[New paradigms]
Is the RFID technology merely an extension of the barcode technology?
How will concepts such as Smart Artefacts challenge the current paradigm
of RFID applications?
[Design principles and solutions]
Can we propose design principles and methodologies based on the
discussions and investigations on the above issues?
This workshop series includes the following two workshops, each of which will
last for one full day:
Workshop 1: Issues, Models and Tools (November 10, 2004)
The first workshop will take place on November 10, 2004 to identify
and discuss key issues, relevant ideas, models and tools for enhancing
privacy and advancing information sharing in RFID systems.
People who are interested in topics such as models, technology and tools,
contextual factors, and collaboration should participate this workshop.
Workshop 2: Toward a New Paradigm (December 6, 2004)
The second workshop will take place on December 6, 2004 to extend
and integrate different ideas as a first step towards shaping a new
paradigm for RFID Systems and Applications. People who are interested
in topics such as end-user needs, lessons learned, new paradigms,
and design principles and solutions should participate this workshop.
Each workshop will include two sessions, one in the morning and the other
in the afternoon, and will be limited to about 70 participants not including
workshop organizers. Each session includes invited talks and short
presentations that share a similar topic.

今回の大会は、日本データベース学会が協賛し、ＤＢＳ研、ＤＥ研、ACM SIGMOD
日本支部が全面的に協力している国際会議です。

本日は、来年７月２７日〜２９日に東京浅草で開催される
The 3rd International Human.Society@Internet Conference
への投稿のお願いをさせていただきたく、メール差し上げております。
この会議は、インターネットと人間や社会との関係について総合的に議論することを
目的として、Dr. Won Kimが始められたもので、
2001年、2003年とソウルで開催されたのに引き続き、
2005年には東京で開催されることになりました。
添付のCFPにある通り、テーマとしては
(1) インターネットが社会にもたらしている様々なインパクト
（特に悪い影響）とそれを解決するための技術的・社会的な方策
(2) 社会に存在する様々な問題を解決しよりよい社会を築いていくための
インターネットの技術とその応用
を掲げています。
すなわち、技術そのもの、またはインターネット応用活動それ自体ではなく、
それらを現実社会とそこに存在する諸問題との関係でとらえ直したものを
対象にしています。
その意味で、既に新しい技術をお持ちの方、
インターネットを用いた活動を展開されている方は、
それを社会との関係で見直すことによってこの会議への寄与とすることが可能です。
（なお、CFPではTrack I, IIとありますが、
実際のセッション構成が２トラックに分かれるわけではありません。）
日本データベース学会には増永会長のご紹介により協賛をいただいております。

Background and Aim of the Conference
The Human.Society@Internet conference was first started in May 2000
with the aim of providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and
research results among professionals and students interested in
following the issues and solutions to their possible ill effects, and
issues and solutions to supporting the numerous applications of the
Internet that have broad consequences on humans and the society.
The technical themes of the 2005 edition of the conference are
organized around two tracks as follows:
Track I: Impacts of the Internet on Humans and the Society
1. negative side effects of the Internet on humans and the society,
that is, the uses of the Internet that have caused monetary
damages, invasion of privacy, violation of intellectual rights,
social problems, and even undesirable outcomes in elections,
etc. These include, but are not limited to, spam; viruses, worms,
and fishing; digital rights violations; frauds in electronic
commerce, mobile commerce and auctions; hacking and intrusion;
cyber terror and cyber warfare; invasion of privacy and identify
theft; attacks against the Internet infrastructure, including
denial of service attacks; exposure of children to unsavory
things; hijacking of democracy by a small but vocal minority; bad
web communities, such as suicide websites, crime-aiding websites;
marriage breakups; rude words in opinions posted to websites; etc.
2. technical, legal, business model, and mass education-based
solutions to address ill effects from the uses of the Internet, as
mentioned above.
Track II: Applications of the Internet That Have Broad Positive
Impacts on Humans and the Society
1. both established and emerging uses of the Internet that have or
are expected to have positive effects on humans and the society,
that is, applications and uses of the Internet that expand
commerce and economy, enhance quality of life, improve governments
services to people, diversify the interactions and relationships
among people in communities of varying sizes and purposes,
etc. These include, but are not limited to, electronic commerce,
mobile commerce, auction, online games, entertainment, education
and learning, health care, governance, politics, Internet
telephony, e-mass media (digital newspapers, radio), e-family,
e-communities, etc.
2. technologies to support the applications mentioned above.

good English are solicited. Suggested length is 10-20 double-spaced,

CALL FOR PAPERS
Communications in Information and Systems ・A Special Issue
Computational Informatics in Data Mining and Information Retrieval
A special issue for the journal Communications in Information
and Systems (http://www.ims.cuhk.edu.hk/~cis/) is scheduled
on the topic on Computational Informatics in Data Mining
and Information Retrieval. The research in data mining
and information retrieval on structured and unstructured data
has been growing tremendously. Unlike structured data commonly
found in database or data warehouse, unstructured data does not
have a rigid schema. Various kinds of text data such as online news,
emails, memos, and equipment maintenance logs are examples
of unstructured data. Other examples are data composed of a
combination of structured database records and free texts such
as data found in biomedical domain, automated diagnosis, and
customer relationship management applications. Mining useful
information or extracting knowledge from structured and unstructured
data has received much attention recently. Information retrieval
for unstructured data especially text data has also drawn much
interests. A variety of models and techniques have been developed.

This special issue solicits high-quality innovative papers
addressing significant research related to the broad area of
computational informatics in data mining and information
retrieval. Special topics of interest include, but are not
limited to, the following:
- Intelligent information retrieval
- Intelligent data fusion
- Computational intelligence algorithms
- Text mining
- Semi-structured data mining
- Computational learning from unstructured data
- Intelligent data preprocessing
- Image mining
- Computational medical informatics
- Mining or learning sequences from data

Authors may submit unpublished manuscripts in English to any
guest editors via email. A cover letter must be sent to the
corresponding editor by e-mail. The cover letter should give
the author's preferred address, e-mail address, phone number,
and fax number. All manuscripts will be reviewed by a panel
of referees. Authors of all accepted papers must send the
electronic version of the final manuscript (preferably in
LATEX2e) to the corresponding editor.
