In recent few years, various types of sensor networks have been
deployed at many places and information generated by sensors has
increased rapidly. Thus, we are in a time which we could call the
"information-explosion era." In the information-explosion era,
establishing new techniques for both data processing and
communication in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is a crucial and
challenging issue.
This workshop (SeNTIE'08) aims to provide a platform for
discussing open issues, current challenges and solutions, as well
as directions for future research on data processing and
communication techniques of WSNs in the information-explosion era.
The workshop intends to bring together researches and practitioners
in a broad range of topics related to WSNs in both theoretical and
practical experience aspects.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Submitted papers must be original and not submitted for publication
elsewhere. Authors are invited to submit their papers via the
SeNTIE2008 web site (http://www-nishio.ist.osaka-u.ac.jp/sentie2008/)
by Feb. 6, 2008. An electronic, PDF based submission of papers is
mandatory.
The paper length should not exceed 8 pages in the camera-ready IEEE
style. Proceedings will be printed in hardcopy with IEEE Press and
will be included in IEEE Explore.
The registration fee will be one flat fee that includes all the main
conference + workshops + seminars (No extra charge for attending
workshops).

Who should attend? What are the issues?
The objective of this Symposium is to bring together researchers and
practitioners from different "service" related areas within both
industry and academia. We specially encourage original papers
addressing problems of service availability at all layers, including
experience on:
* Dependability in Service Oriented Architectures (SOA): What
dependability requirements are imposed by users and law? How are
these requirements addressed in the SOA ?
* Dependability in heterogeneous integrated systems: what is the
state of the art in dependable heterogeneous systems? Do we need
new standards?
* Development and design tools for dependability: how can we support
the day to day design, implementation, deployment and
maintenance of
dependable systems? Can we automatically "create" dependable
solutions? How can we integrate dependability properties in common
development environments?
* Certified dependability: How can we certify service-level
agreements (SLA) and dependability properties in ongoing
development
work?
Topics: All areas of service availability are solicited, including
but not limited to:
* Robust services and infrastructure design/modeling/evaluation
* Dependability and security requirements, design and
test ofservices and SLA's
* Availability/reliability models for composable systems
* Service development, analysis, testing - models, environments,
tools
* Dependable solutions based on Java
* Availability standards for service implementation,

* Modeling, measuring and implementing dependability and security of
integrated information and communication services
* Virtualization technologies and dependable services
* User aspects of service availability - dependability, performance,
security, privacy
* Dependability tools integrated in Eclipse environment
* Service discovery
* Service improvement and enhancement
* Highly available service system
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS:
Manuscripts should be submitted (and
clearly indicated) as either Regular Papers or Practical Experience
Reports. Regular Papers should describe original, unpublished work
on current research and novel ideas. Practical Experience Reports
should describe an experience or a case study. Submissions whose
contributions are supported by experimental evaluations are strongly
encouraged.
The title page should include the title of the paper, author name(s),
affiliations, mailing address, e-mail address, a maximum of 150- word
abstract, five keywords and the submission category. The format of
submissions for review should be single-column, 11-point font size
and double-spaced: Not more than 20 pages for Regular Papers and not
more than 12 pages for Practical Experience Reports including figures,
tables and references. Papers should be submitted electronically
through the symposium web page. Accepted papers are planned to be
published in the Symposium Proceedings in a Special Volume of
Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series (please refer to
the Authors Section "Information for LNCS Authors" at www.springer.

During the past years, the International Conference on Networked
Sensing Systems (INSS) has established itself as THE scientific event
where academic and industrial experts from the areas of sensor systems,
wireless networks, and sensor network applications come together. The
INSS provides a forum to hear about the latest developments in these
areas, to exchange ideas, and to start up collaborations within these
fields and between industry and academia.
Call for Scientific Contributions
---------------------------------
INSS 2008 is the fifth annual conference in the series, and features a
highly selective technical program. We invite outstanding research
papers for the regular paper track from the field of sensor technology,
wireless networking, and applications of networked sensor systems. The
conference especially encourages submissions that investigate research
issues shared between all three areas. Topics of interest include but
are not limited to:
- Applications of Networked Sensing Systems
- Prototypes, Field Studies & Testbeds for Networked Sensing Systems
- Security for Networked Sensing Systems
- Data Management for Networked Sensing Systems
- Middleware for Networked Sensing Systems
- Communication Protocols
- Sensor Phenomena and Modeling
- Sensors and Sensing Systems
- Materials, Fabrication, and Packaging of Sensors
INSS 2008 invites the submission of both regular and short papers.
Regular papers must be 4-8 pages long (two-column format) and include
an abstract of 100-150 words. Short papers must be 2-4 pages long
(two-column format) and include an abstract of 100-150 words. All
papers should be formatted according to the "IEEE transactions"
format. Short papers are suitable for interactive discussions; the
presenters of accepted short papers are given short oral presentation
times and poster space for discussions.
INSS 2008 is specifically seeking papers that are of interest to the
interdisciplinary community represented at the conference. All
submissions will be peer-reviewed and evaluated on the basis of
originality, significance of contribution, technical correctness, and
presentation. Papers submitted must contain original, unpublished
material and must not be under simultaneous review for any other
conference, journal, workshop, or other publication. Accepted papers
will be included in the conference proceedings and accessible online
via IEEE Explorer. Authors are required to attend the conference to
present their work.

Call for Industrial Contributions
---------------------------------
This year, INSS offers an industry track. Industry papers are suitable
for industry researchers to present not only technical, but also
practical issues surrounding production, deployment, and
commercialization of networked sensing technology. Industry papers
must be 2-4 pages long (two-column format) and include an abstract of
100-150 words. All papers should be formatted according to the "IEEE
transactions" format. The submitted industry papers will be reviewed
by industry track TPC members. Accepted industry papers will be
presented in the main conference's industry track session given full
oral presentation times. The industrial track aims at providing a
forum among practitioners, developers, and researchers to discuss
practical issues including but not limited to:
- Designing networked sensing systems for commercial applications
- Service models and architectures for successful deployments
- Production engineering for networked sensing systems
- Evaluation of networked sensing systems in practical applications
