日本データベース学会の皆様立命館の手塚です。 2011年3月に京都で開催されます国際シンポジウムW2GISのCFPを転送させていただきます。この会議は2001年に日本で第一回を開催したものですが、 10周年を記念してふたたび京都で開催する運びとなりました。テーマは Web + GIS, Wireless + GIS を中心に、地域情報検索や実空間指向デバイスなど、幅広く対象としております。論文集は Springer の Lecture Notes in Computer Science として刊行されます。また、優秀論文を論文誌 Transactions in GIS に推薦することにもなっております。たくさんのご投稿をお待ちしております。 -------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS 10th International Symposium on Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems W2GIS 2011 03 - 04 March, 2011, Kyoto, Japan Symposium Website: http://www.w2gis.org TOPICS The continuing advances in the development of Wireless and Internet technologies generate ever increasing interest in the diffusion, usage, and processing of geo-referenced data of all types - geomedia. Spatially aware wireless and Internet devices also offer new ways of accessing and analyzing geo-spatial information in both real-world and virtual spaces. Consequently, new challenges and opportunities have been provided that expands the traditional GIS research scope into the realm of Intelligent Media including geomedia with context-aware behaviours for self-adaptive use and delivery. Our common aim is research-based innovation that increases the ease of creating, delivering and using geomedia across different platforms and application domains that continue to have dramatic effect on society. The 2011 Symposium, hosted by Kyoto University, is intended to provide an up-to-date review of advances in recent development of Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems (W2GIS). W2GIS is a series of successful events alternating locations between East Asia and Europe, with the most recent event held in Maynooth, Ireland. The 10th Symposium is returning to Kyoto, where the W2GIS series was first launched in 2001. We invite submissions that address theoretical, technical, and practical issues of W2GIS and Intelligent GeoMedia. Reports on ongoing implementations and applications research are particularly welcome. Each paper must include a short abstract and a list of keywords indicating subject classification. The full names and addresses of the authors should be printed only on the title page. The author who is the contact person should be indicated as such. Acceptance of a paper means an obligation for at least one of the authors to present the paper at the conference venue. 日本データベース学会の皆様、今回の先端的データベースと Web 技術動向講演会は、実際にトップ国際会議に論文を通した新進気鋭の若手研究者2名の方から、トップ国際会議に論文を通すために工夫された点も交えて、国際会議での発表内容を詳細にお話頂く企画と、これまでの DBMS の50年間を振り替えって次の50年を予測するといった興味深いキーノートの話を含んだ ICDE2010 の会議報告です。三島様からは、「成せば成る！」という大変勇気の出るタイトルで、VLDB2008 の不採録の経験から VLDB2009 で採録に至るまでの精神力の持ち方も含んで、低コストでデータベースサーバの拡張性、高可用性を向上する方法について分かりやすく説明頂く予定です。油井様からは、ICDE2010 に論文が採録されたバッファ管理でブロッキングさせない Generalized CLOCK の手法について、採択される論文として完成させるまでの具体的な注意点等と一緒にお話頂けます。また、SIGMOD 日本支部でご報告頂くために ICDE2010 にご参加頂いた江田様からは、会議の様子と共に、Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison の Prof. Jeffrey F. The aim of the workshop was to provide a platform for exchanging ideas and research outcomes on multiple aspects of information credibility on the Web. WICOW workshop was organized by Katsumi Tanaka (Kyoto University), Xiaofang Zhou (University of Queensland), Min Zhang (Tsinghua University) and Adam Jatowt (Kyoto University). In response to the call for papers, we have received 22 submissions, out of which, 10 full papers were selected following a careful review process with at least three reviews for each submission. The accepted papers were presented during three sessions: "Wikipedia Credibility", "Studies of Web Information Credibility" and "Evaluating Information Credibility". In addition, Miriam Metzger (University of California Santa Barbara) delivered a keynote talk entitled: "Understanding Credibility across Disciplinary Boundaries". Her presentation overviewed research on credibility from a social science perspective, pointing out areas of overlap and disjuncture with work from other disciplines. All of the presented papers were interesting and triggered long and fruitful discussions among the audience. In particular, Rob Ennals from Intel Labs Berkeley, USA gave a noteworthy talk entitled "What is Disputed on the Web?" His research aims at automatically constructing database of disputed claims that frequently occur on the Web. The claims are found by performing web search with a series of linguistic patters which indicate lack of consensus on various controversial issues. Overall, WICOW was an interesting and successful event that gathered many active researchers and practitioners who conduct the research about evaluating credibility of information on the Web. Various types of wireless networks such as cell-phone networks, wireless LANs, ad-hoc networks, sensor networks, and mesh networks have been developed at many places. In adttion, the number of wireless terminals and information generated by such terminals has increased repidly. Thus, we are in a time which we could call the "Information-Explosion Era." Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts following the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscript style: two columns, single-spaced, including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and number each page. The papers should be no longer than 6 pages. They will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of exposition.
