These changes call for novel analytical tools and methodologies for making sense of large amounts of heterogeneous data, for deriving diverse kinds of knowledge, and for linking across different collections and research disciplines. Thus the theme of the 2017 conference is #TOScale #TOAnalyze #TODiscover. Digital libraries must improve outreach efforts, engage diverse communities, and provide scholars and users with effective and flexible access to materials which will in turn empower them to make new observations and discoveries. This year, we particularly invite papers, panels, workshops, and tutorials that present new discovery methods for diverse kinds of collections and datasets (e.g., documents, images, sounds, videos), that apply recent technologies in related fields like machine learning and data mining, and that report on innovative digital library applications that engage diverse communities, facilitate user access, and enable discovery and exploration in all domains including science, art, and the humanities. This year, in addition to the research-oriented program, we are organizing a practitioners's day so experts and practitioners can share their experiences and report on major projects. Practitioner contributions will take the form of posters and demos. Participation is sought from all parts of the world and from the full range of established and emerging disciplines and professions including computer science, information science, web science, data science, digital humanities, librarianship, data management, archival science and practice, museum studies and practice, information technology, medicine, social sciences, education and the humanities. Representatives from academe, government, industry, and others are invited to participate. TOPICS JCDL welcomes submissions from researchers and practitioners interested in all aspects of digital libraries such as: collection discovery and development, hybrid physical/digital collections; knowledge discovery; applications of machine learning and AI; services; digital preservation; system design; scientific data management; infrastructure and service design; implementation; interface design; human-computer interaction; performance evaluation; user research; crowdsourcing and human computation; intellectual property; privacy; electronic publishing; document genres; multimedia; user communities; and associated theoretical topics. Submissions that resonate with JCDL 2017 theme are especially welcome, although we will give equal consideration to all topics in digital libraries. SUBMISSIONS Full papers report on mature work, or efforts that have reached an important milestone, and must not exceed 10 pages. Accepted full papers will typically be presented in 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions and discussion. Short papers may highlight preliminary results to bring them to the community's attention. They may also present theories or systems that can be described concisely in the limited space. Short papers must not exceed 4 pages in the conference format. Accepted short papers will typically be presented in 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions and discussion. Posters permit presentation of late-breaking results in an informal, interactive manner. Demonstrations showcase innovative digital library technologies and applications, allowing you to share your work directly with your colleagues in a high-visibility setting. Proposals for posters or demonstrations should consist of a title, extended abstract, and contact information for the authors, and should not exceed 2 pages in the conference format. Accepted posters and demonstrations will be displayed at the conference. All paper submissions (full/short papers, posters and demos) should use the ACM Proceedings template and are to be submitted in electronic format via the conference's EasyChair submission page [https://easychair.org/ conferences/?conf=jcdl2017]. The objective of this new pilot task accepted to run at NTCIR-13 is to foster research on generating knowledge graphs that are optimised for facilitating users' actions (buying, booking, downloading, comparing, creating, etc.). To achieve this objective, we set two subtasks: Action Mining (AM) subtask and Actionable Knowledge Graph Generation (AKGG) subtask. === TASKS === In this pilot task, we set TWO subtasks to achieve and advance the technologies related to actionable knowledge graph presentations that can be used for search engines. ACTION MINING SUBTASK (AM) Input: Entity, Entity Type, and Wikipedia URL Output: A ranked list of actions For a given entity type (e.g., Place) and instance entity (e.g., "poland"), participants will be asked to find potential actions that can be taken (e.g., "visit poland", "buy a house in poland", "find weather in poland"). Participants are allowed to use any external resources (e.g., Action section in schema.org) to return a ranked list of potential actions. Up to 100 actions should be submitted for each query (pair of entity and its type). The format of each submitted action should contain verb and object (called also the modifier of a verb), where the object's length is limited to 50 characters. For example, in the above-mentioned case of "poland" as the entity instance of the Place type, "buy a house in poland" would be an action composed of a verb "buy" and object "a house in poland". Participants are allowed to submit up to three actions that share the same verb. Note that actions can sometimes lack objects (actions containing only a verb), in which case, the object is actually considered NULL. For example, for the entity "outlook express" of the type Product, "download" is an example of correct action that does not require any explicit object specified. This subtask can be seen as an open information extraction task, and allows us to accumulate a comprehensive set of actions that are related to a given entity type and entity instance. The returned actions will be assessed by crowdsourcing to be scored from 1 to 5. Actions will be evaluated not only based on their relevance but also based on diversity in order to prevent submissions of many similar actions (e.g., actions where verbs are synonyms or the objects have very similar meaning). The query (input) can be ambiguous as in realistic search queries, and participants need to return the ranked list of relevant entity properties to create an actionable knowledge graph. Actions in the test queries will be taken from the outcomes of the Action Mining (AM) Subtask. Properties to be returned will be those defined as attributes of the entity type in schema.org vocabulary. Instructions for submitting research papers, workshop and tutorial proposals can be found at the conference website. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which will be published as a volume of Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science series (approval pending). Submissions must not exceed 15 pages in LNCS (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) format. We encourage authors to cite related work comprehensively, and when citing conference papers please also consider to cite their extended journal versions if applicable. DASFAA 2017 will employ double-blind reviewing process, every research paper submitted to DASFAA 2017 will undergo a "double-blind" reviewing process: the PC members and referees who review the paper will not know the identity of the authors. To ensure anonymity of authorship, authors must prepare their manuscript as follows: * Authors' names and affiliations must not appear on the title page or elsewhere in the paper. * Funding sources must not be acknowledged on the title page or elsewhere in the paper. * Research group members, or other colleagues or collaborators, must not be acknowledged anywhere in the paper. * The paper's file name must not identify the authors of the paper. It is strongly suggested that the submitted file be named with the assigned submission number. 日本データベース学会の皆様，（重複して受け取られた場合にはご容赦ください）京都大学の加藤です．情報アクセス技術（情報検索，データベース，自然言語処理等）に関わる共有タスクをNTCIR-13にて追加募集しており，提案締切が残り1週間ほどとなっております． NTCIR-13ではライフログ検索，医療情報マイニング，質問検索，質問応答，対話，行動マイニング，感情推定，脳波分析，Web検索などのタスクが提案されており，これらのタスクへの参加募集もまもなく行われる予定です．これに加えて，1, 2件の追加タスクを募集しておりますので，新しいタスクのアイデアがある方はぜひご提案いただければ幸いでございます．タスク提案の締切は約一週間後の【10月31日】になっております．どうぞよろしくお願いいたします． ====================================================== NTCIR-13 CALL FOR ADDITIONAL PILOT TASK PROPOSALS (Task Proposals Due: October 31, 2016) ====================================================== NTCIR (NII Testbeds and Community for Information access Research) is a sesquiannual series of evaluation conferences that mainly focuses on Asian language information access. The first NTCIR conference (NTCIR-1) took place in August/September 1999, and the latest NTCIR-13 conference launched in June 2016. Research teams from all over the world participate in NTCIR tasks to advance the state of the art and to learn from one another's experiences. For NTCIR-13, nine tasks have been already accepted and their activity started. The nine tasks include five core tasks (LifeLog-2, MedWeb, OpenLiveQ, QALab-3, and STC-2) and four pilot tasks (AKG, ECA, NAILS, and WWW). Since there are still many emerging problems in information access research, we now call for additional pilot tasks in NTCIR-13. TASK PROPOSAL FORMAT: The proposal should not exceed five pages in A4 single-column format. The first four pages should contain the main part and appendix, and the last page should contain only description about the data used in the task.
