Submissions must describe working systems and be based on current web-aged technology. These systems may be innovative prototype implementations or mature systems that use techniques which are related to topics covered in WAIM 2013. Submissions to all topics listed in the call for papers under http://idke.ruc.edu.cn/waim2013/CallforPapers.html are eligible. Demo submissions will be evaluated on relevance, maturity and technical challenges of the demo systems, but we also pay attention on the potential number of attendees. Each accepted demo is required to have a poster and demonstrate during the demo sessions. For accepted demos, demo papers will be published in a joint volume with workshop papers by Springer in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). Each final camera-ready demo paper will be 3 pages long, including figures and other materials. At least one of the demo submitters must register for the conference, and perform the demo on site. Based on the overall performance, several demo works will be selected and offered "BEST DEMO AWARD." Submission Guidelines: The submission and notification process will be handled together with the regular papers of the conference, using an online system https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/WAIM2013/ Instructions, camera-ready formatting and copyright transfer for conference papers also hold for demo papers, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. A demo submission must be up to 3 pages long. It must provide adequate information on the system's components and the way the system is operated. Figures, screenshots and interactive demo plans may be included if necessary. The authors are encouraged to provide a URL that points to a preview of the demo. A successful demo paper provides satisfactory answers to following questions: What makes the presented piece of software unique and special? What are the innovative aspects or in what way/area does it represent the state of the art? For whom is it most interesting/useful for a researcher, for a graduate or undergraduate student in these areas, for a practitioner? If there are similar/related pieces of software, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the presented one? The term mobile in MDM has been used from the very beginning in a broad sense to encompass all aspects of mobility - aspects related to wireless, portable and tiny devices. The conference provides unique opportunities for researchers, engineers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore new ideas, techniques, and tools, and to exchange experiences. The 14th International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2013), to be held in Milan, Italy (June 3-6, 2013), solicits Advanced Seminars that would present experiences with, and a vision of, such emerging technologies and address different dimensions of the ever-changing space of mobile data management in the years to come - based on valid research on mobile technology, business or community aspects. In terms of the topics, the ones listed in the MDM 2013 call for papers are all appropriate. Formatting and Submission Guidelines: An advanced seminar will be part of the main conference program. The planned length should be indicated in the proposal. The desired duration is 1.5 or 2 hours but could be extended to 3 hours if needed. The scientific and technical level of the materials used in the presentation should balance the breadth and the depth in a manner that will enable an average conference participant to understand the main topics without larger effort. The proposal for an advanced seminar should be submitted as a PDF document and should contain the following information: * Title of the intended seminar * Names, affiliations and short biographies of the persons proposing the seminar * Duration of the seminar * Up to 4 pages of an extended abstract describing the main topic(s) to be presented at the seminar, along with motivation, background, and tentative outline of the major identifiable (sub)units in the presentation * Description of what possible special ICT infrastructure may be needed to run the seminar, along with other requirements. The submissions must be sent as an email-attachment (pdf) to both Advanced Seminar Chairs: Takahiro Hara (hara(a)ist.osaka-u.ac.jp) and Thierry Delot (tdelot(a)univ-valenciennes.fr) Both chairs are available to answer questions concerning the Advanced Seminars. Note that the final document of an accepted seminar must be compiled into 2 pages abstract in IEEE format, which will be included into the proceedings of the MDM 2013 conference. Apologies for crossposting -------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS ----------------- The 3rd IEEE International Workshop of Smart Communication Protocols and Algorithms (SCPA 2013) June 9-13, 2013, Budapest, HUNGARY In conjunction with IEEE ICC 2013 http://scpa.it.ubi.pt/2013/ Selected papers will be invited to the Special Issue on Smart Protocols and Algorithms of the International Journal Network Protocols and Algorithms (ISSN 1943-3581) or to the Special Issue on Recent Patents on Telecommunications Journal ((Online)ISSN 2211-7415, (Print) ISSN 2211-7407) Communication protocols and algorithms are needed to communicate network devices and exchange data between them. The appearance of new technologies usually comes with a protocol procedure and communication rules that allows data communication while taking profit of this new technology. Recent advances in hardware and communication mediums allow proposing new rules, conventions and data structures which could be used by network devices to communicate across the network. Moreover, devices with higher processing capacity let us include more complex algorithms that can be used by the network device to enhance the communication procedure. Smart communication protocols and algorithms make use of several methods and techniques (such as machine learning techniques, decision making techniques, knowledge representation, network management, network optimization, problem solution techniques, and so on), to communicate the network devices to transfer data between them. They can be used to perceive the network conditions, or the user behavior, in order to dynamically plan, adapt, decide, take the appropriate actions, and learn from the consequences of its actions. The algorithms can make use of the information gathered from the protocol in order to sense the environment, plan actions according to the input, take consciousness of what is happening in the environment, and take the appropriate decisions using a reasoning engine. Goals such as decide which scenario fits best its end-to-end purpose, or environment prediction, can be achieved with smart protocols and algorithms. Moreover, they could learn from the past and ! use this knowledge to improve futur e decisions. In this workshop, researchers are encouraged to submit papers focused on the design, development, analysis or optimization of smart communication protocols or algorithms at any communication layer. Algorithms and protocols based on artificial intelligence techniques for network management, network monitoring, quality of service enhancement, performance optimization and network secure are included in the workshop. We welcome technical papers presenting analytical research, simulations, practical results, position papers addressing the pros and cons of specific proposals, and papers addressing the key problems and solutions. The topics suggested by the conference can be discussed in term of concepts, state of the art, standards, deployments, implementations, running experiments and applications. Apologies for crossposting ==================================================================== *Call for Papers* International Journal of Mobile Networks and Applications *Special issue on* Network Protocols and Algorithms for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks ISI Thomson Impact Factor (2011): 0.838 Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging area of wireless ad hoc networks that facilitates ubiquitous connectivity between smart vehicles through Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) or Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R) and Roadside-to-Vehicle (R2V) communications. This emerging field of technology aims to improve safety of passengers and traffic flow, reduces pollution to the environment and enables in-vehicle entertainment applications. The safety-related applications could reduce accidents by providing drivers with traffic information such as collision avoidance, traffic flow alarms and road surface conditions. Moreover, the passengers could exploit an available infrastructure in order to connect to the internet for infomobility and entertainment applications. The increasing necessity of this network is an impetus for leading car manufacturers, research communities and governments to increase their efforts toward creating a standardized platform for vehicular communications. However, VANET?s unique characteristics and special requirements excite new challenges to the research community. To address these challenges in both safety- and comfort-oriented applications, there is a pressing need to develop new protocols and algorithms for channel characterization and modeling, Medium Access Control (MAC), obstacle modeling, adaptive geographical routing to sparse and dense traffic conditions. People perceive the Web increasingly as a social medium that fosters interaction among people, sharing of experiences and knowledge, group activities, community formation and evolution. This has led to a rising prominence of SNAM in academia, politics, homeland security and business. This follows the pattern of known entities of our society that have evolved into networks in which actors are increasingly dependent on their structural embedding. The ACM/IEEE international conference on Advances in Social Network Analysis and Mining (ASONAM 2013) will primarily provide an interdisciplinary venue that will bring together practitioners and researchers from a variety of SNAM fields to promote collaborations and exchange of ideas and practices. IEEE/ACM ASONAM 2013 is intended to address important aspects with a specific focus on the emerging trends and industry needs associated with social networking analysis and mining. Full paper submission deadline is April 15, 2013. These papers will follow an academic review process. Full paper manuscripts must be in English with a maximum length of 8 pages (using the IEEE two-column template). Submissions should include the title, author(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address(es), tel/fax numbers, abstract, and postal address(es) on the first page.
