Wireless and Internet devices also offer new ways of accessing and analyzing geo-spatial information. Consequently, new challenges and opportunities have been provided to the GIS research community. This Symposium is intended to provide an up-to-date review of advances in recent development of Web and Wireless Geographical Information Systems (W2GIS). It is the 6th in a series of successful events beginning with Kyoto 2001, and alternating locations between East Asia and Europe, with the most recent event held in Lausanne 2005. We invite submissions that address both theoretical and technical issues of W2GIS. Reports on implementations are particularly welcome. The 23rd International Conference on Data Engineering provides a premier forum for sharing and exchanging research and engineering results to problems encountered in today's information society. We especially encourage submissions that make efforts (1) to expose practitioners to how the research results and tools can contribute to their everyday problems in practice and to provide them with an early opportunity to evaluate these tools; (2) to raise awareness in the research community of the problems of practical applications of data engineering and to promote the exchange of data engineering technologies and experience among researchers and practitioners; (3) to identify new issues and directions for future research and development in the data engineering field. AWARDS An award will be given to the best paper. A separate award will be given to the best student paper. Papers eligible for this award must have a (graduate or undergraduate) student listed as the first and contact author, and the majority of the authors must be students. Such submissions must be marked as student papers at the time of submission. INDUSTRIAL PROGRAM The conference will include an industrial track for high quality papers and presentations on innovative commercial software for all facets of information technology, which include novel applications of database and information retrieval technologies, experiences in applying recent research advances to practical scenarios and innovations in commercial information management software. Industrial track submissions should also be prepared in the 8/5"x11" IEEE camera-ready format, with a 12-page limit, and submitted electronically via the industrial track submissions website. PANELS Panel proposals must include an abstract, an outline of the panel format, and relevant information about the proposed panelists. DEMONSTRATIONS Demonstration proposals should focus on new technology advances in applying databases or new techniques. Inaugurated in Hong Kong in 1998, ICADL has since been hosted in Taipei, Taiwan (1999), Seoul, South Korea (2000), Bangalore, India (2001), Singapore (2002), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2003), Shanghai, China (2004) and Bangkok, Thailand (2005). The 9th ICADL (ICADL2006) will be held in Kyoto, Japan in the late November.
