■2■ SDM2025 参加報告
Igor L.R. Azevedo(東京大学)
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) International
Conference on Data Mining 2025 (SDM2025) was held from May 1 (Thursday)
to May 3 (Saturday), 2025, in Alexandria, United States. This year, the
conference received 228 paper submissions, out of which 61 were accepted,
resulting in a competitive acceptance rate of 26.7%.
Our team had the opportunity to present our paper titled “A Look Into
News Avoidance Through AWRS: An Avoidance-Aware Recommender System”
during the Recommender Systems session on May 1st. This work addresses
the growing phenomenon of news avoidance, a behavioral pattern often
overlooked by traditional recommender systems. We proposed AWRS, a novel
framework that jointly models exposure, relevance, and avoidance to
better capture user preferences. By introducing a user engagement
embedding that accounts for avoidance and exposure patterns, AWRS
achieved strong performance across three datasets in English (MIND),
Norwegian (Adressa), and Japanese (Nikkei Inc.).
Our participation at SDM allowed us to share these findings and receive
valuable feedback from the broader data mining community. In particular,
several researchers offered suggestions on improving our avoidance
modeling and discussed the potential for integrating large language
models (LLMs) to further enhance user understanding and
personalization - a direction we intend to explore in our future work.
In addition to our presentation, SDM2025 featured a number of inspiring
talks and papers. Notably, Dr. Bryan Perozzi (Google Research) delivered
a talk titled “Graph Reasoning in Large Language Models”, which
explored how LLMs reason over complex data structures. The presentation
covered a representational hierarchy of Transformer architectures, the
generation of novel temporal reasoning tasks, and new methods for
enhancing in-context representations of structured data.
Another highlight was the talk by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Johan Ugander
(Stanford University) on misinformation diffusion in social networks,
with a particular focus on Community Notes, a fact-checking initiative
on X (formerly Twitter). The session discussed techniques to evaluate
the effectiveness of such interventions in slowing the spread of
misleading content and methods related to Bridging-Based Ranking.
Overall, SDM2025 provided a rich environment for discussion and exchange,
bringing together researchers from diverse backgrounds to explore the
latest advancements in data mining. We are grateful for the opportunity
to present our research and look forward to contributing further to the
study of avoidance-aware recommender systems in future venues.

■3■ ICISSP2025 参加報告
MAI, Trong Khang(北陸先端科学技術大学院大学)
The 11th International Conference on Information Systems Security and
Privacy (ICISSP 2025) took place in Porto, Portugal, from February 20 to
22, 2025. This event provided a platform for international researchers
to gather and discuss emerging trends in cybersecurity and privacy. This
year, the conference had 151 paper submissions from 35 countries, out of
which 29% were accepted as full papers. Besides full paper presentations,
the conference also included other types of presentations, such as short
papers and posters. Additionally, ICISSP 2025 featured several engaging
keynote lectures presented by renowned experts in their fields: Awais
Rashid from the University of Bristol (United Kingdom), Ahmad-Reza
Sadeghi from the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), and
Wenjing Lou from Virginia Tech (United States). The next ICISSP
conference will be organized in Marbella, Spain, on March 4-6, 2026.
We presented two papers at the ICISSP 2025 conference. The first paper,
titled "CyLLM-DAP: Cybersecurity Domain-Adaptive Pre-Training Framework
for Large Language Models," focuses on creating a framework to simplify
the domain adaptation process (DAP) of Large Language Models (LLMs) in
the cybersecurity field. Compared to other LLM utilization techniques,
such as fine-tuning and prompt engineering, DAP is often overlooked in
cybersecurity due to its implementation difficulties. To address this
issue, we created a framework, namely CyLLM-DAP, designed to ease the
DAP process of LLMs. In the mentioned paper, we illustrate how CyLLM-DAP
can be employed for data collection and processing, as well as for
creating cybersecurity-specific LLMs (CyLLMs) based on advanced
open-source models (Llama 3 and Mistral v0.3). The effectiveness of
domain-adaptive pre-training is validated through two experiments
involving text classification and Q&A tasks. Our evaluation results
indicate that, compared to general base or instruction models,
integrating cybersecurity knowledge into LLMs typically enhances their
performance in both tasks, which is comparable to domain-adaptive
pre-training in other research domains. We hope that our paper will
attract greater attention from the research community towards DAP and
open-source LLMs. Moreover, I was honored to receive the Best Student
Paper Award for the work presented in this paper.
The second paper, entitled "LLM-Based Fine-Grained ABAC Policy
Generation," presents the results of a joint research project conducted
between the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST)
and NEC Corporation. This work introduces a methodology that utilizes
LLMs to generate Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) policies directly
from cybersecurity guidelines. This approach employs multiple LLMs
within a mixture-of-agents mechanism to analyze the ABAC scenario from
diverse perspectives. We integrate multi-turn interactions with RAG to
create the appropriate context for LLM prompting. During the evaluation
process, we assess the practicality of using LLM-generated policies in
the access control decision-making process in an Industrial Control
System (ICS) network. An optimization module is introduced to adjust the
priority values of these policies, ultimately achieving an exceptional
F1 score of 0.994. We hope this work will benefit the development of
access management systems in IT networks.

MAI, Trong Khang(北陸先端科学技術大学院大学)
Khang Mai is a third-year doctoral student at JAIST and a member of the
Cybersecurity Research Lab
(https://www.jaist.ac.jp/english/laboratory/ngdi/beuran.html). He is
supervised by Assoc. Prof. Razvan Beuran. Most recent computer-based
cybersecurity applications rely on large amounts of training data to
facilitate the problem-solving capabilities of deep learning models.
However, the dynamic nature of the cybersecurity field leads to a lack
of training data, and the existing data quickly becomes outdated. As a
result, experts must manually annotate the data and invest considerable
effort in implementing and maintaining these applications. This results
in high expertise costs for developing practical applications in the
cybersecurity domain. Khang's research focuses on alleviating the manual
expertise required to implement computer-based cybersecurity systems. In
his most recent publications, he seeks to leverage recent trends in deep
learning and natural language processing, including weak supervision and
large language models, to address these challenges.

# A. Call for Research / Demo / Industry Track Papers
Scope: The 19th International Symposium on Spatial and Temporal Data (SSTD)
expands its scope beyond traditional databases to embrace the broader and
rapidly evolving landscape of spatial and temporal data. While previous
editions focused on foundational database systems and techniques, this
year’s symposium welcomes research that addresses the full spectrum of
challenges and innovations in managing, analyzing, and leveraging spatial
and temporal data. We invite contributions spanning data management,
analytics, mining, machine learning, visualization, and real-world
applications across diverse domains, reflecting the growing significance of
spatial and temporal data in today's data-driven world. This expanded scope
aims to foster interdisciplinary discussions and accommodate emerging
trends where spatial and temporal data intersect with cutting-edge
technologies.
SSTD 2025 solicits submissions in three tracks.
-Research Track
Authors are invited to submit long and short research papers presenting
original contributions. The selection criteria include quality, novelty,
correctness, and relevance to SSTD.
The short research papers are expected to discuss exciting new work that is
not yet mature enough for a long paper. In particular, novel but
significant proposals will be considered for acceptance to this category
despite not having gone through extensive experimental validation or
lacking a strong theoretical foundation.
-Demo Track
We invite authors to submit demo papers featuring systems that are fully
developed or currently under development but reasonably complete and
mature. Demonstration proposals will be evaluated based on their novelty,
technical innovations, the challenges being addressed, and the overall
practical appeal of the showcased system.
-Industry Track
We invite the submission of industry papers that highlight practical
applications, address real-world challenges, share original insights and
demonstrate the successful translation of research into impactful solutions
for businesses and organizations.
