主催：電子情報通信学会データ工学研究専門委員会 日本データベース学会 情報処理学会データベースシステム研究会 日程：2020年3月2日（月）〜3月4日（水） 会場：DEIM2020オンラインポータルに於けるオンライン開催 （磐梯熱海ホテル華の湯に代えて） 〇 開催概要 データ工学と情報マネジメントに関するフォーラム／日本データベース学会年次 大会（DEIM）は、データ工学と情報マネジメントに関する様々な研究テーマの討 論・意見交換を目的とした研究集会であり、当該分野では国内最大規模を誇りま す。毎年、合宿形式で開催しており、深い議論や活発な研究交流を促進している 点が特長的で、大学・企業の若手教員・研究者・技術者および学生からの発表の 他に、一般からの発表も広く受け付けるとともに、近年は産学連携に向けた活動 を強化しています。 この度のDEIM2020については、当初は3月2日（月）から4日（水）にかけて福島 県の磐梯熱海ホテル華の湯を会場として、例年と同様の規模で開催するべく、準 備を進め、論文投稿を募集するとともに参加申込の募集を行っておりましたが、 新型コロナウイルス感染症が我が国においても拡大する傾向が見られたことか ら、2月17日（月）に会場に於ける開催を中止することとし、これに代えて、ほ ぼ同じスケジュールでオンライン会議システムを用いたオンライン開催を執り行 うこととしました。この結果、オンライン開催ではあるものの563名の参加者に お集まりいただき、予定していた316件の口頭発表と55件のインタラクティブ発 表の全てとそれらの質疑を終えることができました。加えてDBSJアワーを開催 し、日本データベース学会業績賞ならびに功労賞の授賞式を挙行しました。功労 賞を受賞された宮崎収兄先生（千葉工業大学名誉教授）および三浦孝夫先生（法 政大学教授）からは永年のデータベース分野のご研究に関する講演をいただきま した。また、DEIMの培ってきた合宿形式の雰囲気を少しでも感じ取れるようにし ようとBanquet Onlineなる新たなネットワーキングの試みを実施しました。 〇 オンライン開催への挑戦 新型コロナウイルス感染症の拡大に伴い、今日では多くの学術集会がオンライン 開催を試みるようになってきていますが、振り返りますとDEIM2020のオンライン での開催を決断した2月17日（月）の時点では、オンライン会議システムによっ て十分な研究発表と質疑を行うことができるかどうかは、必ずしも見極めること ができていた訳ではありませんでした。情報学分野の学術団体が率先して挑戦す ることが重要だと考え、「壮大な実験」と称して、参加者の皆様に対して開催方 法の変更へのご理解とオンライン開催へのご協力をお願いしました。最終的には 上述の通り、例年と同規模での開催を行うことができました。オンライン開催の 準備を進める過程では、参加者の皆様に3回に渡る実証実験への参加を呼び掛け、 延べ380名の参加者にご参加をいただきました。実験によって得られた知見をも とに編纂されたオンライン会議の進行マニュアルは、情報処理学会全国大会等の 開催等へ活用されています。DEIM2020の開催は、コミュニティの広く温かいご理 解とご支援によって実現されたものです。全ての参加者の皆様のご協力に感謝を 申し上げます。 なお、壮大な実験と宣言したものの、実行委員会にはオンライン会議システムの 構築や運用を行うための技術的な用意が十分ではなく、謂わば「意気込みだけ」 の状態でした。国立情報学研究所（NII）に相談したところ、わずか半日足らず のうちに技術支援チーム（通称「DEIM成功させ隊」）が編成され、DEIM2020の終 了に至るまで昼夜を問わずご支援を頂戴しました。実行委員会の細かいお願いの 一つ一つを機動的かつ丁寧に叶えていただきました。NIIからいただいた献身的 なご支援に深く感謝を申し上げます。 〇 産学連携の強化 前回のDEIM2019では、産学連携に向けた活動を強化する方針を新たに定め、協賛 企業を募り、常駐ブースの設置や協賛企業による技術報告講演やライトニング トークを行いました。DEIM2020では産学連携委員会を立ち上げて当該方針を強化 することとし、その趣旨に賛同いただいたアマゾンウェブサービスジャパン （株）、（株）サイバーエージェント、（株）Gunosy、（株）LIFULL、LINE （株）、（株）野村総合研究所、楽天（株）、（株）リクルートテクノロジー ズ、Sansan （株）、ウォンテッドリー（株）、ヤフー（株）、（株）ZOZOテク ノロジーズの12社（アルファベット順）の企業から協賛の申し出をいただきまし た。上述の通り新型コロナウイルス感染症の拡大によって、DEIM2020は会議場で の開催からオンラインでの開催へ開催方法を変更したものの、これらの全ての企 業から継続的に協賛する旨の力強いメッセージを頂戴しました。協賛企業12社の お力添えに深く感謝申し上げます。 〇 論文投稿システムの刷新 オンライン開催の陰で、こっそりと幾つかの変更も行いました。大きなものに論 文投稿システムの刷新が挙げられます。恐らく10年ほど前に導入された論文投稿 システムを使用して来たのですが、今ではDEIMの実務から大きく乖離し、著者と 運営の両サイドにとって使いにくいものになっていました。これをプログラム委 員会が中心となって、一から開発し直しました。今やDEIMのプログラム編成に とっては欠くことのできないクラウドソーシングシステムとも円滑に連携できる ようになっています。奇しくもDEIM2020はオンライン開催することとなりました が、オンラインポスタ閲覧機能、オンライン会議ポータル、オンライン参加証明 書といったDEIMならではのきめ細やかなサービスの提供を可能とする等、自前の 論文投稿システムが大きな縁の下の力持ちとなりました。 〇 ローカルアレンジメント業務の見直し 残念ながら開催のオンライン化によって今回は日の目を見ることはなくなってし まいましたが、アレンジメント業務についてもローカル委員会を中心に見直しを 進めました。DEIMはその前身のDEWSの時代から一貫して成長してきていますが、 この過程で様々な附随業務が肥大化し、運営負担が増大してきています。同時に 従来の枠組みにとらわれることなく、新しい試みに挑戦することのできる胆力も 必要です。受付や採点の手続きを概ねペーパレス化することによって業務の軽減 を行うとともに、チャイルドケアサービスをより利用しやすくするといった見直 しを行いました。これらは次回のDEIMで存分に活躍してくれるでしょう。 〇 おわりに DEIM2020にご参加いただいたコミュニティの皆様、オンライン開催に献身的なご 支援をいただいたNIIの皆様、開催方法の変更にも関わらず温かくご支援を継続 していただいた協賛企業12社の皆様、当初の会議場・宿泊施設の準備を丁寧にお 進めいただいた関係団体の皆様に、心より御礼申し上げます。オンライン開催に 接し、多くの参加者の方は意外とオンラインであっても学術集会は開催できるの だと理解しつつも、どこか一抹の物足りなさもお感じになったのではないかと思 います。本稿の執筆時点では、新型コロナウイルス感染症が世界的に蔓延し、社 会全体は不安に包まれています。疫病禍が早期におさまり、来年のDEIM2021では 会場で皆様と会えるようになることを願っています。 (合田和生 東京大学生産技術研究所) -------------------------------------------------------------------- ■２■ 令和元年度 データ解析コンペティション DB部会開催報告 大塚真吾 (神奈川工科大学) データ解析コンペティションは、「共通の実データを元に、参加者が分析を競う」 ことを目的として、平成6年度から毎年開催されています。平成25年度からは ACM-SIGMOD日本支部と日本データベース学会ビジネスインテリジェンス研究グ ループの共同体制で、データベース分野独自の予選会（DB部会）を開設しています。 今年度のDB部会の委員構成は、次の通りです。 主査：大塚真吾（神奈川工科大学）、関根純（専修大学） 委員：井上潮（東京電機大学）、宇田川佳久（東京工芸大学）、鬼塚真（大阪大 大学）、北山大輔（工学院大学）、波多野賢治（同志社大学）、増田英孝 （東京電機大学）（五十音順） 令和元年度は8月5日から翌年3月31日までの期間で、 みずほ情報総研株式会社様 にご協力いただき、都内タクシー1万台弱のプローブデータ（提供期間は2016年 4月〜2018年3月の2年間）の提供を受け、約100チーム、延べ約600名が参加しま した。 DB部会の参加は7チームで、12月中旬にウェブ上で中間報告会を行い、2月24日に 最終報告会を開催する予定でしたが、COVID-19の感染拡大の影響を受け、急遽、 報告会は中止とし、最終報告書と発表用スライドをもとに、審査をすることとな りました。DB部会主査・委員による厳正な審査の結果、最優秀賞は「標準地域 メッシュを用いたタクシー移動方位の変動評価」を発表したブラックキッズ +（大東文化大学）、優秀賞は「再帰型ニューラルネットを用いたタクシー乗降 車数の予測」を発表したチーム九段下（東京理科大学）が受賞しました。最優秀 賞ブラックキッズ+は、コンペティション全体の成果報告会（各部会の代表チー ムが出場）において発表を行う予定です。（当初は3月19日の開催予定でした が、COVID-19の感染拡大の影響により、6月20日(土)開催を軸に調整中です。） 今回は各チームの解析技術の向上に加えて、特に上位2チームは綿密な解析によ りタクシーの需要や乗降車数について高精度の予測を行っており、ビジネスに有 用な知見を示したことが高評価に結び付いたと感じました。一方で、DB部会への 参加チームが少なく、コンペティション全体における存在感がまだ十分ではあり ません。このコンペティションは、オープンなデータではなく、企業が実際の業 -------------------------------------------------------------------- ■３■ IEEE BigComp 2020 参加報告 Salman Ahmed Shaikh (AIST) This year, the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Big Data and Smart Computing was held at BEXCO, Busan, Korea from 19th to 22nd February 2020. BigComp is a relatively new conference, with a history of not more than seven years, however I believe that it is emerging as a reputable and a prestigious platform for the researchers working in the different areas of databases and data mining including big data, stream processing, smart computing, graph processing and artificial intelligence. Although due to the New Coronavirus (COVID-19), a few authors could not attend the conference, yet at-least 200 participants including authors and non-authors from around the world attended the conference and presented their work. The BigComp 2020 conference comprised of several workshops, keynotes, tutorials and technical sessions during the span of four days. According to the organizers, overall, 173 submissions were received from around the world, out of which 36 papers were accepted as full while 31 were accepted as short. This brings the acceptance rate of 20.8 for the full papers. In total, 315 faculty members, researchers and students registered for the conference, however approximately only 200 could physically attend the conference due the novel coronavirus. The authors of the countries with the major virus outbreak were given the option to present their work remotely via skype or pre-recorded video. In total, 6 papers were given the best paper awards, with 1 at the first place, 2 at the second place and 3 at the third place. The best paper award winners were presented with a certificate and a small gift. Following is the list of the best papers. o Best Paper Award – 1st Place 1. Overall, 11 workshops were scheduled on day 1 (19th February), however due the COVID-19, one workshop was canceled. Out of the remaining 10 workshops, 2 were full day workshops and 8 were half day. The First International Workshop on Research Data Analysis and Utilization (RDAU 2020) The main conference was held from 20th to 22nd February 2020. The main conference was comprised of a mix of technical sessions, keynotes and tutorials. The first keynote on Day 2 was presented by Prof. Masaru Kitsuregawa of University of Tokyo on the topic “the Data Challenges Towards the Realization of Society 5 Vision”, which was quite thoughtful. The talk was delivered as a recorded video due to the novel coronavirus, hence there was no opportunity to ask questions. The keynote was later followed by several technical sessions. The Day 3 started with a panel discussion of experts followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Jiawei Han of University of Illinois at Urbana on the topic “Mining Unstructured Big Text: A Multi-Dimensional Analysis Approach”. Again, the talk was delivered as a recorded video due to the novel coronavirus, hence there was no opportunity to ask questions, however the talk was informative and useful. The talk was followed by several technical sessions. The Day 4, the last day, experienced very low attendance at the conference due the extreme coronavirus warnings from the Korean government. The keynote talk on the topic “Hybrid Deep Learning with Explainable Latent Space for Big Data Analysis” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sung-Bae Cho of Yonsei University. This was the only keynote during BigComp 2020 which was delivered live. Beside the keynotes and the technical sessions, the following four very informative tutorials were also part of BigComp 2020. 1. Blockchain and its Security Risk by Kazumasa Omote, Mitsuyoshi Imamura and Teppei Sato (University of Tsukuba) 2. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) by Jaesik Choi (KAIST) 3. Detecting Communities and Anomalies in Large Real-world Graphs by Sungsu Lim (Chungnam National University) and Kijung Shin (KAIST) 4. Big Data - AI Integration by Steven Euijong Whang (KAIST) (Salman Ahmed Shaikh, Data Platform Research Team, AIRC, AIST) -------------------------------------------------------------------- ■４■ AAAI 2020 参加報告 数原良彦 (Megagon Labs) 2/9から2/12までニューヨーク市で開催されたAAAI 2020に参加してきました。 4000名以上が事前登録をしていたとのことですが、新型コロナウイルスによる中 国本土からの渡航禁止により、参加できなくなった800名以上が不参加というこ とでした。感覚的には不参加人数はもっと多かったように思います。奇しくも3 年前に参加したIJCAI 2016と全く同じ会場で、懐かしい気分になりました。その ときの参加者は1000人は超えていたと記憶していますが、2000人にはほど遠く、 それでも会場は混雑して人に酔った記憶があり、その感覚からするとAAAIは公表 された以上に不参加人数が多かったのかもしれません。 ●採択件数と傾向 今回の採択率は20.6%で、昨年 (16.2%) から一昨年 (24.6%) に回帰した感じに なっています。フルペーパーの投稿件数が7,737とものすごい勢いで増えている ので、採択絶対件数は昨年の1150件から1591件と大幅に増えています。国別採択 件数では日本は8位（35件採択）でした。私が参加してきた国際会議の中でも日 本人が比較的多い会議だな、と思いました。 AAAIは広範囲に渡る論文が発表される印象でしたが、トピックとしては ML >> Vision ≒ NLPの３つのトピックが大部分を占めていて、知識表現、探 索、アルゴリズムと言ったいわゆる人工知能の中心的なトピックが隠れてしまっ ている印象でした。 ●チューリング賞受賞者の講演 今回のAAAIの目玉はなんといっても、チューリング賞受賞のYoshua Bengio、 Yann LeCun、Geoffrey Hintonの三人の講義でしょう。Geoffrey Hinton がひた すらカプセルネットワークを推す一方で、Yann LeCun はうまくまとめつつ、 Yoshua Bengio が Daniel Kahneman の System 1/System 2 の理論をベースにビ ジョンを語るという三者三様のトークで会場は大盛りあがりでした。三人の講演 に共通することとして、Transformer のような self-attention ベースのモデル とself-supervised learning の重要性が強調されていた点があげられます。こ れはある意味で納得なのですが、すでに流行になっているものに対して火に油を 注いで過剰な流行を招くことにならないか、という部分が少し心配になりました。 ●セッションの様子 各セッションは、オーラル2-3件のあとに10件程度のポスターのスポットライト 発表があったのですが、多くのセッションですべてのオーラルがビデオ発表、ス ポットライトもNo Showが散見され、かなりの異常事態でした。同様にポスター セッションもいくつかのNo Showがあったり、ポスター発表者に質問したら、著 者ではない代理の方だったり、と、大変な状況でした。 私は今取り組んでいるNLPを中心に聴講しましたが、ニューラルネットワーク ベースの手法が中心であることは当然のこと、Transformerベースの手法、 pre-trained 言語モデルを使うアプローチが主流になっていました。RNNを使っ ていると「なんでTransformer使わないの？」という感じの反応をされます。こ れらの背景が共有されている前提で発表、議論が行われるので、とテクニカルな 議論という意味ではポイントに集中して議論できるのでよかったのですが、少し でも分野を外れると議論についていけないですし、本質的にどのような問題を解 けたのか、という議論が少ない印象でした。 流行といえば、今回の自分たちの発表とかなり似たアイディアがAAAIで発表され ており、ポスターを聴講に来た著者のひとりに「明後日に似たアイディアを発表 するよ」と教えてもらったりしました。また、昨年11月のEMNLPで発表されたも のとかなり類似するアイディアがAAAIで発表されていたりと、本分野の発展の速 さにぞっとしました。 ●自発表とAAAI投稿について 私は共著で "Emu: Enhancing Multilingual Sentence Embeddings with Semantic Specialization" という論文を発表してきました。異なる言語の文を 同じ埋め込み空間に射影して、文類似度を直接計算することが可能な多言語文埋 め込みモデルは、表層表現の類似度に敏感で、意味的な類似度を測るのが苦手で あるという問題があります。これに対し、単一言語のラベル付きデータを使って モデルを改善するというアイディアです。これは昨年のインターン生の成果でし て、会社で解説記事も書いたのでよろしければそちらをご覧ください。 Emu: Enhancing Multilingual Sentence Embeddings with Semantic Specialization Wataru Hirota, Yoshihiko Suhara, Behzad Golshan, Wang-Chiew Tan https://megagon.ai/blog/emu-enhancing-multilingual-sentence-embeddings-with-... 論文投稿に関しては最初のレビューがなかなか厳しく、正直これは厳しい、と内 心諦めていたのですが、Author response に全力を尽くして回答したところ、 Reject判定をしていた三人目のレビュワーがWeak Acceptに上がり、採択判定と なりました。こんな経験は共著者を含めて初めてだったので、とても驚きまし た。上述のとおり類似のアイディアが出てきていましたので、今回不採録だった 場合には、もう国際会議への採録は難しかったかもしれません。諦めたらそこで 試合終了だよ、と某先生もおっしゃっていたように、諦めずに今の試合に全力を 尽くすことが大切だと再認識しました。 共著者たちと論文を書いたり修正しながら学んできたように、論文とは研究コ ミュニティ（査読者、読者）とのコミュニケーションなのだな、と査読結果を受 け取るたびに実感します。必ずしも思い通りにならないという、コミュニケー ションにひとつの正解はないですし、これからも日々コミュカアップに精進した いと思っています。 (数原良彦 Megagon Labs) -------------------------------------------------------------------- ■５■ VLDB 2020への道（その7） Van-Dang Tran (総合研究大学院大学)、佐々木勇和 (大阪大学)、天方大地 (大 阪大学) 今回のVLDBへの道では，PVLDB vol.13に採択されたVan-Dang Tranさんのご経験 を共有いただきました． 採択に至るまでの経緯・工夫についてご覧頂けます． ============ My experience in submitting a paper to VLDB 2020 I have been engaging in database research since I joined the Programing Research Laboratory in National Institute of Informatics (NII), Japan in 2017. My research interest lies at the intersection of programming languages and databases. In particular, I am studying query languages and bidirectional programming in relational databases. I have been working with my supervisors, Prof. Zhenjiang Hu and Prof. Hiroyuki Kato, who provided me invaluable suggestions and advice. It is very great that my research result was recently accepted to publish in the 46th International Conference on Very Large Data Bases (VLDB), a top conference of database research, which is held in Tokyo this year. This good start highly motivated me to pursue my Ph.D. research. Unlike most computer science conferences, VLDB has a journal-style review and quality assurance process. We can submit a paper to VLDB every month and get the notification after one and a half months. We have up to three months to revise the paper for the second round of evaluation if requested after the notification. I submitted my paper to VLDB 2020 on July 1st, 2019. I was very lucky that although three reviewers didn’t all accept my paper in the first round, they gave me a chance to revise the paper. I carefully read all the comments from reviewers to understand reviewers’ concerns and make a good plan for my paper revision. The reviewers gave me some big comments and I realized that I needed to intensively modify the paper, and carry out more serious experiments for my research method. In my opinion, experiments are very crucial in the paper evaluation since VLDB is not a theoretical conference. It took me all three months to complete the intensive revision. I got the accept notification after that one month. Actually, before submitting the paper to VLDB 2020, my paper was rejected from PODS 2019. Although the PODS reviewers did not accept my paper, they encouraged me to improve the writing presentation which was the main issue of the paper. I also got other valuable comments to simplify the theory I presented in the paper, even minor comments about the notation convention I used. Perhaps, being rejected from PODS 2019 was not bad news to me because from that I can learn a lot of things from database experts. That was the basis for me to strengthen the practicality of my research contributions, thereby perform experiments and submit the result to the VLDB conference. The important lesson I learned from the PODS submission as well as from revising my VLDB paper is that we should avoid writing too many formal things in the paper. Instead, we can give more examples with clear explanations and intuition that are very helpful to convey our idea to the readers. The VLDB reviewers suggested me to fully write the uninteresting proofs in another report and cite the full report in the main VLDB paper. From my experience, the key factor on my path to paper acceptance I would like to suggest is that we should resolve all reviewer’s concerns and clearly explain how we resolve that in a response letter. For VLDB revision submission, we can write a supplementary “Response to Reviewer Comments” with a maximum of 4-pages length. I fully used the 4 pages in the response letter to summarize all the revisions I made in the paper and answer reviewers’ questions individually. Of course, the main (not every) revised parts in the paper should be highlighted for easily following. Another minor but important thing is that it is very helpful to group and summarize the reviewer’s questions before answering them all. This will recall the reviewers’ concerns because the revision process may take a long time. Any concerns of the reviewers that we can not clarify may lead to paper rejection. It is my pleasure to share my experience of submitting papers at a top database conference. Hopefully, this will be helpful for others to make submissions and contribute to the database research of Japan.
