It provides an international forum for researchers and industry practitioners to share their new ideas, original research results, and practical development experiences from all KDD related areas, including data mining, data warehousing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, databases, statistics, knowledge engineering, visualization, decision-making systems, and the emerging applications. PAKDD 2019 will be held from April 14-17, 2019, in Macau, China, a city on the Pearl River estuary with a rich history where Chinese, Portuguese and other Western cultures have combined to create a unique cultural mix. We invite proposals for half-day (3-4 hours) tutorials from active researchers in both academia and industry who are experienced and engaging presenters. Ideally, a tutorial will cover the state-of-the-art research, development and applications in a specific data mining direction, and stimulate and facilitate future work. Tutorials on interdisciplinary directions, novel and fast growing directions, and significant applications are highly encouraged. A tutorial proposal should include the following and should not exceed 4 pages excluding references: - Title - Abstract - Presenters' name, affiliation, address, email, phone - A biographical sketch of the presenter(s) - Outline including a short summary of every section - Specific goals and objectives - Expected background of the audience - Audio Visual equipment needed for the presentation - A list of up to 20 most important references that will be covered in the tutorial IMPORTANT DATES *************** - Proposals due: November 16, 2018 - Tutorial notification: December 22, 2018 - Submission of tutorial notes: March 29, 2019 Please submit your proposals by email to the Tutorial Co-Chairs Bob Durrant (bobd@waikato.ac.nz) and Yang Yu (yuy@nju.edu.cn). Proposals will be evaluated by the tutorial co-chairs based on merit and relevance. The tutorial presenters will be required to provide comprehensive tutorial notes (printable slides) prior to the event, which will be published on the PAKDD web site and made available to conference attendees free of charge. Tutorials will be presented during the main PAKDD conference as parallel sessions, and all presenters named in the proposal MUST attend to present the tutorial or the session may be cancelled. For each accepted tutorial proposal the PAKDD organising committee will provide support for attendance in the form of ONE full registration to the conference. PAKDD 2019 seeks workshop proposals on foundational and emerging topics in areas related to data mining. The PAKDD workshops provide an informal and vibrant opportunity for researchers and industry practitioners to share their research positions, original research results and practical development experiences on specific challenges and emerging issues. Each workshop should be focused on a cohesive theme so that participants can benefit from interaction with each other. A list of topics (non-exhaustive) includes: - Foundational topics in data mining - Big data mining/platform - Data mining on specialized data types: graphs, structured/unstructured/semi-structured data, streaming data, time series, spatial-temporal data, text, multimedia, social networks, etc. - Data mining in specific disciplines or interdisciplinary topics: biology, ecology, e-government, environmental sciences, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, social sciences, etc. - Data mining on cloud computing - Data mining and privacy - Data mining and security - Data analysis and mining for new applications: smart devices, smart grids, smart homes, etc. - Data analytical processing - Emerging topics such as fairness-aware data mining, massive open online courses, data mining for sustainability, social informatics, etc. The organizers and chairs of the workshop shall have full control on the call for papers, formation of program committees, reviewing and selection of papers as well as planning the workshop program. HOWEVER, the program committee chairs are not allowed to submit papers to the workshops to ensure a fair review process. IN ADDITION, the chairs must include the following statement in the workshop CFP: "Submitting a paper to the workshop means that the authors agree that at least one author should attend the workshop to present the paper, if the paper is accepted. For no-show authors, their affiliations will receive a notification." The registration fees for workshops will be determined by the conference (not the workshop itself). The fees will be paid to the conference, and the conference will provide workshop facilities including working notes printing, meeting room, coffee break, lunch, proceedings, etc. Each workshop will have a right to include its outstanding papers in a LNCS/LNAI post Proceedings of PAKDD Workshops published by Springer. Under the program, the workshop chair must organize a review committee to select the outstanding papers from the papers presented in the workshop. Based on the reviews, each selected paper should be further improved for the camera ready version. A detailed schedule of due dates for the paper selection and the collection of the camera ready versions will be announced immediately after the workshop announcement. Prospective workshop organizers should send a proposal (maximum three pages) with the following sections to pakdd19ws@gmail.com. - Title of the workshop - Objectives, scope, and contribution to the main conference - Names and contacts of key organizers and a tentative list of members of the program committee, along with links to their webpages - Expected number of papers, attendees, and preliminary workshop format - Workshops will have either a full day or a half day format. Prior discussion of candidate workshop organizers with the workshop co-chairs is strongly encouraged.
