Techniques and methodologies to extract quality information in distributed systems are of paramount importance for many applications and users in the business community. Data mining and knowledge discovery play key roles in many of today's prominent business intelligence applications to uncover relevant information of competitors, consumers, markets, and products, so that appropriate marketing and product development strategies can be devised. In addition, formal methods and architectural infrastructures for related issues in distributed systems, such as e-commerce and computer security, are being explored and investigated by many researchers. As the inaugural workshop, BIDS-2010 aims to bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners to discuss, exchange ideas, and present their research findings on business intelligence and distributed systems. Topics of interest that BIDS-2010 covers include general business intelligence techniques and methodologies, as well as their application in distributed systems (but are not limited to): * Business Text, Data, and Media Mining * Distributed System Architecture and Infrastructure for Business Intelligence * Marketing Information Retrieval and Client Knowledge Discovery * Consumer Social Networks and On-Line Communities * Market Information Categorisation and Fusion * Web Search, Ranking and Optimisation of Business Sites and Products * Collaborative Filtering, Personalisation and Recommender Systems for Business Products * Semantic Web and Ontology for Business Intelligence Technology * Cyber Security, Privacy, and Trust in e-Commerce * e-Technology, e-Government, and e-Learning for Business * Business Wikis and Blogs Mining * Web Intelligence * Competitive Intelligence Submission Deadline: May 30, 2010 (23:59 PST) Author Notification On: June 20, 2010 Final Manuscript Due: July 23, 2010 Author Registration Deadline: July 31, 2010 Original full papers of at most 6 (six) pages including figures and references in PDF (IEEE Proceedings Style: two columns, single-spaced, 10 font) are solicited. Submission of a paper should be regarded as a commitment that, if the paper is accepted, at least one of the authors will register and present at the conference. Accepted papers will be published by the IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS) and archived in the Digital Library. Extended version of selected papers presented at BIDS-2010 will be considered for publication in special issues of several international journals.
